Arthur asks Spence to loan him $12,000 to give to Carrie and Doug to help with their mold problem. When Spence tells him he doesn't have that kind of money, Spence's mother Veronica overhears the conversation, and tells Arthur that if he will have dinner with her, they can discuss her loaning him the money. The scene ends with a shot set up like the famous scene in The Graduate, the camera from behind Veronica's legs, looking through to Arthur standing off to the side.
