9 to 5: The Musical is an upcoming musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick, based on the 1980 movie Nine to Five. Resnick was the co-screenwriter of the film, with co-writer Colin Higgins (the film's director) in which Parton had her first film role. 
 
The musical premiered at Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in try-outs in September 2008 and is scheduled to open on Broadway in April 2009.
