Motorola Commercial for Motorola Xoom

Winter/Spring 2011

Plot / Description

This commercial uses an outer space theme. It starts with a view of the Earth, and shows it as a head with earphones in it. It's then just a bunch of words (still in space), and the planet shown at the end is shown to the the Motorola logo.

The commercial is a jab at Apple. Back in early 1984, Apple created a famous commercial for the Macintosh (relating to the novel by George Orwell) on how Apple was going to help you break free from tyranny and "Big Brother". Motorola is claiming that Apple has simply become Big Brother, and not they want you to break free from the iPhone with their new Motorola XOOM smartphone.

2011 looks a lot like 1984
One authority, one design, one way to work. It's time for more choices.
More speed - dual core 1Ghz processor, 1080p HD video playback, 3G upgradable to 4G
More flexibility - Android 3.0 Honeycomb and Adobe Flash player, 5MP rear-facing camera and 2MP front-facing camera
More freedom. It's time to explore.
It's time to live a free life.
