Stan puts down liberal social programs because he thinks they are a waste of money and that helping others is a sign of weakness. He refused to bail Francine out of jail when she made an illegal U-turn after having drinks with Greg and Terry. Thus, the judge sentences her to community service hours at a local homeless shelter. Stan refuses to stand for it and takes the pot of soup Francine had prepared to drink himself. On a bench, a homeless sells "cold medicine" to him, when it is actually crack cocaine. Stan soon develops a nasty addiction, using it to accelerate his adrenaline during a CIA exercise. However, when Roger reveals to him that the crack was not as it seems, he tries to quit but can't. He resorts to stealing to pay for more cocaine. Stan eventually takes Greg and Terry hostage to pay for his addiction. An incompetent hostage negotiator eventually gives Stan a plane to Colombia "where the crack is dirt cheap" and then inexplicably orders Greg and Terry to be shot (it is not revealed if they were killed or not). However, within two weeks, Stan is needy on the Colombian streets. He then gets mugged by a boy who receives help from the other villagers. Stan then learns it is ok to ask for help. He makes his way back home to admit to Francine that he was wrong. However, he spontaneously jumps out the window, crying out for more cocaine. Flashing to a month later, Stan had gotten over his addiction and the family is back together, even though Steve doesn't forgive Stan for letting his addiction cost him the chance to score with a beautiful high school girl who's attracted to nerds and Francine doesn't listen to Hayley's pleas to let her into rehab for her marijuana addiction.
