As the young doctor descends into dark hallucinations, his older self tries to prevent him from ruining his life.

The aftershocks of the murder continue to ripple through town as friends and neighbors' lives come under scrutiny.

Mark tells Beth he wants to take off work to help care for baby Elizabeth, and later tells Tom he cannot meet with him any more. Lee confronts Ellie and warns her that Hardy and Claire are lovers. Lucy testifies that she saw Joe putting a bag into a skip the night Danny died. A fellow paramedic testifies about Joe's violent temper. Bishop and Thompson decide Joe can't be put on the witness stand. As Ellie drives Hardy to Sandbrook, he tells her about finding Pippa Gillespie's body. Lee and Claire spend the night making love. Hardy meets with Cate Gillespie, who tells a startled Hardy that her husband, Ricky, was having an affair with Claire. She also tells him that Ricky was not with her the night Pippa and Lisa were kidnapped. Hardy and Ellie meet with Hardy's ex-wife, Tess, who refuses to reopen the case. Susan tells Nige she's dying of cancer, but he doesn't believe her. While at dinner with his ex-wife and daughter, Hardy is accosted by Ricky Gillespie-who tells him to stop investigating the Sandbrook case. Hardy wonders if he has accused the wrong man. Ellie tells Hardy about Claire's mobile phone Internet searches, which were all about Lee. She also reveals that Claire only had two numbers on her phone, Hardy's and an unknown number (which the audience learns is Ricky Gillespie's). Olly posts a picture of Lee on the Broadchurch Echo Web site, alarming many people. Susan testifies that she saw Nige placing Danny's body on the beach at Broadchurch. The audience is shown a picture of a field of bluebells on the wall of Ricky's office.

Derek and the gang decide take a trip to Broadstairs. Derek tries to sell some of his autographs at in order to raise money for the retirement home, but it doesn't go too well when he can't remember who the autographs belong to.

Derek and the Broad Hill gang go on a trip to London Zoo. It's Derek's bestests dasy ever, meeting giraffes, penguins, aardvarks, and in Vicky's case, the man of her dreams.

Fleabag and her sister Claire reluctantly visit a female-only silent retreat, courtesy of their father. Their enforced silence is interrupted by an unusual neighboring weekend workshop, explosive secrets coming to light and there is a surprising connection with an old acquaintance.

The priest takes Fleabag for some quiet reflection leading to an unexpected revelation. After a day spent looking back on painful memories, Fleabag searches for solace, only to find more trouble.

Catherine is still haunted by Kirsten's death, and her depression spurs her on her quest to find Tommy Lee Royce. Realising that the net is closing in on them, Ashley orders Tommy to dispose of Ann, but instead Royce holds her prisoner in his mother's cellar. Following her hunch, Catherine manages to speak with Helen face to face and is stunned when Helen admits everything. With everything falling into place, Catherine's heroic actions are shattered when Royce murderously assaults her, leaving both Ann and Catherine to fight for their lives.

Catherine interviews a prostitute who has survived being attacked by Sean Balmforth, who is subsequently arrested and charged with the serial killings, whilst vulnerable young farmer Daryl Garrs is also taken in for hitting out at the thugs who stole his mother's sheep. Catherine is shocked when, on grandson Ryan's birthday, he receives a lavish present, purportedly from his father Royce, which allows Drummond to suggest to the boy that Royce is anxious for forgiveness. In fact, Royce wants a more direct revenge. As John's wife throws him out, Neil tells Clare that he once had an affair with Vicky Fleming and believes her murder is different from the others.

Sarah shares her bedtime ritual and travels to Nashville to write a country song.

A serial killer is targeting women alone at night, taking a piece of jewellery from each of them and giving them to his unknowing wife. He escalates rapidly, and Luther's team is forced to enlist the help of his wife in order to track him down. He is successfully taken alive, but his wife assaults him in a fit of rage, striking him with a hammer in the back of the head. In an attempt to win Luther's friendship, Alice impersonates a doctor and lights a fire in the hospital, taking advantage of the distraction to fatally smother Henry Madsen.
