In a perfect world where there is no conflict, racism or sickness, every member of society has a specific role, and 16-year-old[5] Jonas is selected to be the Receiver of Memory. As Jonas uncovers the truth behind his world's past, he discovers that many years earlier, his forefathers gave up humanity in order to have a stable society.

It is set in a society which is at first presented as a utopian society and gradually appears more and more dystopian. The novel follows a boy named Jonas through the twelfth year of his life. The society has eliminated pain and strife by converting to "Sameness," a plan that has also eradicated emotional depth from their lives. Jonas is selected to inherit the position of Receiver of Memory, the person who stores all the past memories of the time before Sameness, in case they are ever needed to aid in decisions that others lack the experience to make. Jonas learns the truth about his dystopian society and struggles with its weight.

The Guyver (released in Europe as Mutronics) is a 1991 American science fiction film loosely based on the Japanese manga series of the same name by Yoshiki Takaya. The film tells of a young man, Sean Barker, who discovers an alien artifact called "The Unit" which changes Barker into an alien-hybrid super soldier called "The Guyver". Barker learns that a major corporation called "Chronos" is after the Guyver unit and soon discovers that the people behind Chronos are not human after all. The film was met with a mixed reaction from critics and fans. A sequel was followed in 1994 called Guyver: Dark Hero.
