Trevor Noah's unlikely path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show began with a criminal act: his birth. A scientist working for the DOD commits suicide. Mulder and Scully start an investigation only to discover a secret mutation experiment.

Megan's performance as twins on the set of To Have and To Hold gets criticized by the director. Arlene consoles her. Arlene later visits Megan at the apartment, at Megan's invitation, and attempts to kiss her when Megan says she feels lonely. Peggy is fearful after Abe gets stabbed in the hand in their neighborhood. She later gets startled at home and accidentally stabs him in the abdomen. During the ambulance ride to the hospital, Abe breaks up with her. Pete and Duck Phillips have lunch, where Duck questions Pete's role at the new agency and then suggests he work in Wichita. Betty gets lost on the way to Bobby's summer camp, and after seeing Don at a gas station, follows him the rest of the way. The three bond again, and later that night Betty and Don have sex in Betty's room at the lodge. He tells her he misses her, and she expresses sympathy for Megan, "who doesn't know loving you is not the way to keep you". Roger gives Joan a gift for Kevin, saying that he wants to be part of his son's life. Joan counters that Greg, who is absent and perceived as a war hero, is the better father figure and Roger is not dependable.

Vince asks Mike to help him study for a test.

Doug has a great weekend all planned out for him and Carrie - including watching all of the Planet of the Apes movies. Unfortunately, Carrie has to go out of town for the weekend for work - to build houses for the less fortunate. Doug follows Carrie to Connecticut to surprise her, but the surprise is on him when Carrie tries to get him to go home so she can spend the weekend relaxing with her girlfriends. Meanwhile, Danny and Spence sneak backstage at a Huey Lewis and the News concert but things don't go as quite as planned.

When Carrie and Doug first got married, they put their names on a waiting list for an apartment in Manhattan. Doug opens a letter, all these years later, advising them that an apartment has become available. Carrie wants to move to Manhattan and buy the apartment, the only problem is what to do with Arthur. Arthur later meets a woman, and decides she is the one for him, and asks her to marry him. Now that Carrie's problem of where Arthur will live has been solved she is excited to move to the city to fulfill her lifelong dream. However, Doug doesn't want to leave his house and his life in Queens.

When a second fourth grade class comes in to Mrs. Krabappel's class during her absence, Bart falls for a girl named Nikki, who kisses him, then treats him like dirt. Meanwhile, First Lady Michelle Obama teaches Lisa that there is no shame in being an overachieving girl.

Peggy and Megan are up for an advertising award for Heinz Beans, though neither works for SCDP anymore and Heinz is no longer client. Paul Newman is addressing the ceremony when someone shouts out that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has been assassinated. Work shuts down at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce in order to deal with the news, and regularly scheduled television programming has been temporarily replaced by news reports about the assassination and resulting riots. Don Draper takes Bobby to see Planet of the Apes.

The comedy involves a failed science fiction writer who attempts to improve his relations with his mother by moving in with her.
