Kelly invites the entire staff to a celebration of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. Michael mistakenly believes it to be an Indian version of Halloween. In Stamford, Jim decides to bicycle to work. Andy turns a late night of paperwork into an excuse to drink. Karen, unbeknownst to Jim and Andy, pours her shots into her wastebasket. Ryan fails to make a favorable impression on Kelly's parents, who in turn try to set up Kelly with a young doctor. Initially reluctant to attend the festival, Pam gives in and ends up enjoying herself. Inspired by a conversation with Kelly's parents about Hindu marriage customs, Michael publicly proposes to Carol. Uncomfortable, Carol declines his offer and leaves the room. She later explains that this is only their ninth date, and drives home, leaving Michael to find a ride. Pam sends a text message to Jim, who does not answer because he is passed out on his desk. At the end of the evening, Michael mistakenly thinks that he and Pam have a connection, and is rejected when he tries to kiss her. She gives him a ride home on the condition that he sit in the back seat. Jim tries to ride his bike home but is too drunk. An amused Karen gives Jim a ride.

Jimmy and Sabrina, after realizing that they have been keeping secrets from each other, decide to let their guards down and show their true selves. Meanwhile, Virginia learns that Burt has been keeping a secret from her for years.

Eric meets with Harvey Weingard to inform him that Medellin is off the table. Vince and Drama take the mayor of Beverly Hills out for a night on the town, only to have his night exposed on a tabloid website. Ari's mishandling of a top-secret script lands him in jail.

Homer wins a Harley-Davidson motorcycle at a fifties dancing contest and starts his own biker gang, naming it "Hell's Satans". However, this attracts the real biker gang called "Hell's Satans" to crash at their house. However, after a while, they begin to appreciate Marge, who takes care of them, and kidnaps her. Homer tracks them down and scuffles with Meathook, the leader. At Marge's suggestion, the gang settles down and lives normal lives.

Bruce Evans quits his job as a celebrity accountant in New York to move to Sweden with the love of his life, Emma. Already on his first day he has to face new challenges in his adopted country, and above all, he has to meet his girlfriend's strange family. Bruce arrives at the airport where Emma picks him up; as she has rented out her apartment during her time in the USA, they now have to stay with her family until they can find a new place to live. In the fourth-season finale, the sighting of Jimmy's "ghost" is the talk of the firehouse; Colleen blames Tommy for her failed relationship, and Tommy figures out a way to fix his own. Meanwhile, Franco and Natalie come to an understanding, as do Lou, Mike and Latrina; Tommy and his father take in a ball game.

A big chain coffee store becomes Alex's competition, but things become complicated when Max finds out he's dating the coffee shop owner; Penny starts to date Dave's favorite former high school teacher (Rob Huebel), who isn't as perfect as he seems.
