Gloria's ex-husband, Javiér (Benjamin Bratt) introduces his new fiancée, Trish (Paget Brewster) to the family. Trish and Manny form a close bond and Gloria is worried about being replaced. However, when Javiér proposes to Trish, but cannot get the engagement ring on her finger she runs upstairs. Trish fears that she cannot live up to Gloria, at which point Gloria welcomes Trish to the family, now secure and no longer worried about the competition for Manny's affection. Claire and Cam are struggling to sell their fliphouse after turning down an offer from Gil (Rob Riggle). Haley uses social network profiles to research a friend of Luke's, Zach (Anders Holm), in order to stage the house to his likes. At the house inspection Cam mentions Zach's dog name, Otis, and Zach freaks out at how personal the house has been staged and leaves. Gil comes to gloat, but Cam and Mitchell pretend to be interested in the property and Gil is willing to renegotiate for his buyer.

In the episode, Michael takes it upon himself to teach Ryan about business, but soon everyone is forced to evacuate the office due to a fire. While outside, Michael continues to show an interest in Ryan, causing Dwight to be jealous. Meanwhile, Jim organizes games to play outside.

Piper is awakened in solitary and, without being given any information, is forced to board a bus and a plane to whereabouts unknown. After she lands, and finally realizing she is in Chicago, Piper assumes she has been transferred for killing Doggett and attempts to adjust to her new surroundings. Following an an altercation with other inmates, and later seeing and speaking with Vause, Piper discovers she is in Chicago to testify in the trial of Vause's drug boss, Kubra Balik, and the stay is temporary. Vause suggests to Piper they lie in court about knowing Kubra, fearing he will exact revenge if they tell the truth. However, Piper wishes to tell the truth. Several flashbacks from Piper's childhood reveal her complicated past. Piper meets with her lawyer, who strongly advises her to tell the truth. In the van on the way to the trial, Vause pushes one last time for Piper to lie about knowing Kubra, saying she (Vause) will be screwed over if they don't tell the same story. Piper gives in and perjures herself at the trial. Afterwards, her lawyer washes his hands of her. Vause then informs Piper that although she planned to lie, she told the truth, which complicates matters for Piper, who now faces perjury charges and additional time. Piper shouts angrily at Vause, who is being led out of prison, ostensibly to be released.
