Diary of a Mad Black Woman is a 2005 romantic comedy-drama film written by and starring Tyler Perry, which was inspired by the play of the same name. It is the first film in the Tyler Perry "Madea" film franchise. Directed by Darren Grant, the film was released in the US on February 25, 2005. The sequel, Madea's Family Reunion, was released on February 24, 2006. It is the only Tyler Perry film not directed by Perry himself.

Madea's Family Reunion is a 2006 comedy-drama film adaptation of the stage production of the same name written by Tyler Perry and Jasmine Smith sequel to Diary of a Mad Black Woman. It was written and directed by Perry, who also played several characters, including Mabel "Madea" Simmons. It was released on February 24, 2006, nearly one year following its predecessor, Diary of a Mad Black Woman. The independent film was produced by Lionsgate. While planning her family reunion, the pistol-packing grandma, Mabel "Madea" Simmons, must contend with the other dramas on her plate, including the runaway who has been placed under her care, and her troubled nieces, half-sisters Lisa and Vanessa.

In a small-town world full of long afternoons and country fairs, Brenda struggles to get to know the family she never knew existed ... and finds a brand new romance with a handsome gentleman (Rick Fox) that just might change her life. Now Brenda will learn the pain and joys of love and family after finally meeting the family she won't be able to live without.

This film centers on Madea, whose penchant for trouble-making lands her behind bars. She comes to the rescue of Candace, a fellow inmate preyed upon by a large woman named Big Sal.

This will be the fourteenth film in the Tyler Perry film franchise, and the seventh in the Madea franchise. It's the third Tyler Perry film not adapted from a play alongside The Family That Preys and Daddy's Little Girls. George Needleman, a high level CFO is at the center of a Ponzi scheme in New York City. He is being accused of spearheading the scheme involving the mob and has to enter his family into a witness protection program. The program's location in a place that absolutely no one will think to look for them: Madea's house down south with her brother Joe.
