Aladdin

Aladdin is a 1992 animated feature produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation, and released by Walt Disney Pictures on November 25, 1992.

The Return of Jafar is a 1994 animated direct-to-video sequel to the 1992's Aladdin, produced by The Walt Disney Company. The movie was released on May 20, 1994 and serves as the origin of the Aladdin animated series.

During their wedding ceremony, Aladdin and Princess Jasmine find themselves the targets of a raid by the infamous Forty Thieves, led by a man named Cassim. Although Aladdin, Jasmine and the rest of their gang successfully stop the raid and drive the thieves away, they are unable to prevent the wedding from being ruined. Determined to learn what the thieves were after, Aladdin finds an unusual staff (which The King of Thieves tries to steal) among the treasures given as wedding presents. The staff contains an oracle, able to see into the past or the future, but is only able to grant an answer to one question asked per person. Aladdin knows his future is being married to Jasmine but can't remember most of his past. But he remembers that his mother died when he was a kid and he never knew his father. The oracle, however, reveals that his father is actually still alive.

Originally released directly to video in 1993, Aladdin is a 49-minute animated film based on the classic Arabian Nights story, Aladdin translated by Antoine Galland. Like all other Golden Films productions, the film featured a single theme song, "Rub the Lamp", written and composed by Richard Hurwitz and John Arrias. A young boy named Aladdin discovers the secret of an old oil lamp that an evil map had been searching for. Inside the lamp lives a genie who can grant just about any wish to the young boy and he desires to marry the Princess Leila. With the help of the genie, he marries Leila, but the evil Haseem returns and seeks revenge and the treasure that he thinks belonged to him. Aladdin must fight Haseem and prove his worth to himself and to the sultan before he can live a happy life with his new bride. Aladdin was produced by Golden Films and the American Film Investment Corporation, it was distributed to DVD in 2002 by GoodTimes Entertainment, as part of their "Collectible Classics" line.

The wicked wizard Abanazar, in his desert home in Morocco, summons the spirits to tell him how he may obtain the magic lamp - source of all power. He is somewhat bemused to discover that the source lies in a Chinese Laundry in Peking, and the launderess' ne'er-do-well son Aladdin. The ghostly chorus of the spirits takes us into the next scene, where Aladdin himself is discussing with his mother the virtues of idleness. The emperor's herald proclaims that anyone looking upon the Princess Badroulbadour as she passes on her way to the baths will be instantly executed. This is just the kind of challenge that Aladdin likes, so he rushes off to try to catch a glimpse of the Princess. When he returns from his quest the Widow is relieved that he is alive, but very concerned that the young couple are in love. Everyone, including the emperor himself, has a pretty shrewd idea of what has happened - but, as he explains in song to his daughter, "Loves's a luxury" that royals must forgo for reasons of state. Abanazar's arrival seems like just the thing. He quickly convinces the widow and her son that he is the boy's long lost uncle and that he will make Aladdin rich. The upshot of this finds Aladdin trapped in the cave - where he inadvertently summons the genie of the ring - a sympathetic young lady who readily agrees to take him to his mother's house, after a few tears over the sad fact that "Genies have no mothers". The Widow Twankey starts to clean the rusty old lamp which is all her son has brought home - thus summoning another, much more powerful genie who makes it clear he will do anything for anyone unless they make unkind remarks about his green colouring. In no time at all Aladdin is a prince, and happily married to the princess of his dreams. The Widow Twankey is now the Royal Mother-in-law - and manages to dispose of that rusty old lamp to Abanazar. He is now the Genie's new master - and he quickly takes the palace to Morocco. Under sentence of death from the emperor, Aladdin follows the palace to Morocco with the aid of the genie of the ring, and, obtaining the lamp, he gets the palace and the princess back to their wonted places. Abanazar however follows Aladdin back to China, where it becomes apparent that in a contest of brains our hero hasn't a chance. What is he to do? A bit of old fashioned violence is called for. This remedy applied, Abanazar is carried off by the Great Roc and all ends happily.
