On New Year's Eve, Van and her friends Candice (Adriyan Rae), Tami ( Danielle Deadwyler ) and Nadine (Gail Bean) head for a party at a mansion hosted by Drake ; Candice looks to spend the party with a boyfriend named DJ and Van wants a photo with Drake to spice up her Instagram . Upon arriving, the ladies meet DJ and take marijuana-infused gummies (sans Candice), but Nadine reacts badly to hers and ends up separated from Van and by a pool speaking with Darius (who was invited to the party because he knows Drake's personal chef). While Van looks for Nadine and Drake throughout the mansion, she stumbles upon a television-lit room with an elderly, Spanish-speaking man (Carlos Guerrero) who claims to be Drake's grandfather and learns that Drake is currently on tour in Europe. She also learns that people are actually just posing with cardboard cutouts of Drake. Van and Tammi then find Nadine and Darius, where they all learn that Candice left with DJ to go to T-Pain 's New Year's Eve party and people are being kicked out of the house. The next morning, as the four walk back home, Van has an epiphany that Drake must be Mexican.

Rand wakes up in the penthouse, where Harold reveals that his cancer was secretly cured by the Hand, which demanded his loyalty in return and allowed him to reveal the truth only to Ward. Harold asks Rand to destroy the Hand in order to free the former, which he accepts. In exchange, Harold orders Ward to accept Rand's return to the company, where his return is announced in a press conference. In a board meeting, Rand uses his position as the majority shareholder to enforce his decision to sell a newly developed leishmaniasis drug at cost in order to save more lives. At his apartment, Joy is attacked by Triad operatives, whom Rand overpowers. He takes her to the dojo before confronting the Triad leader, who reveals that they hold a grudge against Joy for robbing the pier. However, he completely surrenders to Rand's position after the latter reveals that the Hand was behind it. As a reward for securing the pier, the Hand allows Harold to observe Joy from distance. He notices she has been wounded and asks to be allowed to kill the Triad member responsible, which is accepted. Rand receives a message from Yang Hai-Qing.

After disappearing seven years ago, a now 28 year old Prairie Johnson returns to her parents, Nancy and Abel. Prairie disappeared blind, but now she can see, and insists that her name is "The OA". She does not reveal how she regained her eyesight, nor where she has been for the past seven years, although she makes vague allusions to being held hostage with others. OA tells Steve, a neighborhood bully, that she will save him from being sent to boot camp in Asheville, if he presents her with four other strong people. That night, OA meets Steve in an abandoned house with three other boys from his school, "French", Buck, and Jesse, along with their teacher, Betty Broderick-Allen ("BBA"). She tells them that she was born in Russia as Nina Azarov, the daughter of a powerful oligarch. One day, following a premonition she had, the mafia knocked the bus of the oligarch's children into a river. Nina died and had an NDE where a woman named Khatun gave her the choice of returning to life. Nina came back blind after Khatun told her she would take her sight to protect her from the horrible things lying ahead.
