Homer

Cryptonomicon is a 1999 novel by American author Neal Stephenson. The novel follows the exploits of two groups of people in two different time periods, presented in alternating chapters. The first group is World War II-era Allied codebreakers and tactical-deception operatives affiliated with the Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, and disillusioned Axis military and intelligence figures whom they encounter. The second narrative is set in the late 1990s with descendants of the first narrative's characters employing cryptologic, telecom and computer technology to build an underground data haven in the fictional Sultanate of Kinakuta. Their goal is to facilitate anonymous Internet banking using electronic money and (later) digital gold currency, with a longer range objective to distribute Holocaust Education and Avoidance Pod (HEAP) media for instructing genocide-target populations on defensive warfare.

Hap convinces the sheriff that OA and Homer can cure his dying wife. Once healed, she reveals she is an NDE survivor that can give them the fifth movement. Upon doing so, Hap kills her and her husband. He dumps OA to the road, telling her he will jump dimensions with the others. In the present, OA tells a simplified version of her story to her parents. Nancy reveals to Abel she knew OA had left on her own. French breaks in OA's house and discovers some books that relate to OA's story (e.g. Homer's Iliad). He stumbles upon Elias and tells him OA's stories were lies, but Elias responds what matters is that French was there for her. French shares the revelation with the others. Later, a shooter approaches the school cafeteria. OA, realizing what her premonition meant, runs towards the school, where the five perform the movements in front of the shooter until somebody subdues him. A stray bullet hits OA in the chest. As she's transported to the ambulance she tells them that their plan worked. The scene cuts to black, then to OA looking into the camera, and then black again, as she says "Homer?".

A new work detail doesn't go over well with the inmates. Judy seeks help from Poussey. Maria finds a place she can conduct business.

Sledge and Leckie return home after the Japanese surrender. Sledge is still haunted by the horrors of war. Leckie starts a relationship with Vera. John Basilone's widow, Lena, pays John Basilone's parents a visit and gives them his Medal of Honor.

Robert Leckie and the 1st Marines land on Guadalcanal and take part in the Battle of the Tenaru. Eugene Sledge persuades his parents to allow him to join the war. The Battle of Savo Island is briefly portrayed.

As George develops a crush on Brennan, the cute, but dim-witted intern at her temp agency, Happy Time, everyone, including Delores, discourages her from allowing it to blossom into anything more. Meanwhile, Rube accompany's Mason to his assignment to collect a soul at a kid's birthday party which devastates him. Elsewhere, Joy and Clancy decide to divorce after she finds out that he has been cheating on her with his female college students. Also, Roxy decides to quit her meter maid job and join the police academy to become a real cop after her latest reap, and Daisy steals a silver cross necklace from Roxy's latest victim.

The Odyssey is one of two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer. The poem was probably written near the end of the eighth century BC, somewhere along the Greek-controlled western Turkey seaside, Ionia. The poem is, in part, a sequel to Homer's Iliad and mainly centers on the Greek hero Odysseus (or Ulysses, as he was known in Roman myths) and his long journey home to Ithaca following the fall of Troy. It takes Odysseus ten years to reach Ithaca after the ten-year Trojan War. During this absence, his son Telemachus and wife Penelope must deal with a group of unruly suitors, called Proci, to compete for Penelope's hand in marriage, since most have assumed that Odysseus has died.
