A woman flees from a group of men with guns, but she is captured and separated from her young daughter and her husband is killed. This woman is known as Offred, a handmaid to Commander Fred Waterford. Offred goes out grocery shopping with her companion Ofglen. On the way home, they pass by a wall of men who have been hanged due to committing crimes (such as being gay, working in an abortion clinic, and being Catholic). In a flashback, various women are indoctrinated into their handmaid roles by Aunt Lydia, who tells them about declining birth rates and that they are "special", serving a Biblical purpose. "Offred" enters the room and notices Moira, a woman she knew from college. One of the women in the class, Janine, talks back to Lydia and is shocked with a cattle prod. Later, Janine is revealed to have been punished by having one of her eyes removed. In the present, Commander Waterford tries to impregnate Offred as she lies in the lap of his wife, Serena Joy. The next day, all the handmaids gather in an open field where Lydia announces a man has raped a pregnant handmaid. For punishment, the handmaids are allowed to brutally beat the man to death. Offred learns from Janine that Moira is dead. On the way home, Ofglen tells Offred that she had a wife and son, and warns her there may be an Eye (secret spies) in her house. Through voiceover, Offred reveals her true name, June, and that she intends to survive to find her daughter.

Avon confers with Stringer Bell about troubles with their drug supply and D'Angelo's growing distance. Frank Sobotka attempts to court political favor in order to fulfill his hopes for the regeneration of the docks. Omar Little signs up some new partners in crime. At the request of Wee-Bey, Avon deals with an abusive prison officer who also deals drugs to inmates. His methods horrify D'Angelo.

Marge and neighbor Ruth Powers have a girls' night. Meanwhile, Homer tries to have fun without Marge and Lionel Hutz is hired as Bart, Lisa, and Maggie's babysitter. Homer hitches a ride home with Chief Wiggum, who is following behind Marge and Ruth and decides to pull them over. However, Ruth speeds her car up and reveals to Marge that she stole it from her ex-husband. Marge decides to stay with Ruth, but eventually the police catch up with them and the charges are dismissed.

This commercial begins with two siblings holding their own pet rabbits. They put the bunnies on the ground and the camera moves down the road to another house where a new father is taking his baby for a walk in a stroller. He waves to a woman who is also out walking with her baby. She walks by a house with two toddlers licking huge lollipops while staring out the window. The mother finds a sticky lollipop stuck to a pillow she had in a chair. In another house, a baby is crawling while the father is on the floor using the vacuum cleaner (and getting baby toys stuck in it). In the next scene an older couple is under an umbrella in the pouring rain, but the man pulls the umbrella away and just laughs in the rain. Down the street a little girl is standing on top of a huge pile of dirt that has been dug up to plant a new tree. Another girl runs from a swan that is chasing her.
