The adventures of incoming high school and junior high students on the last day of school, in May of 1976.

Cleveland returns to Quahog, with his new family accompanying him. But when a conflict arises between Lois and Donna, it is up to Peter and Cleveland to reconcile their wives in order to save their friendship.

As Jules adjusts to living on her own, Grayson unwillingly becomes the new object of her constant attention; Travis turns to Bobby for advice on how to redefine himself at college; and Ellie is determined not to be friends with her new nanny.

Jules is a woman in her forties who's five months out of her marriage and being pressured by her best friends into getting "back out there" and finding the dating scene not her style. But with a teenage son who would be happier if she were to hide out in the house, she gets the business from him when she feels like she's "allowed to have a life." Now in her forties, she finds herself as a divorcee and eager to live the dating scene that she missed. Laurie, her younger co-worker, wants to show Jules how to go out there and have fun. Ellie, her sarcastic, married and content to her average but lovable husband Andy. There's also her family, her ex-husband Bobby and her son Travis, who will test her patience, and her new fortysomething divorced neighbor Gray, who doesn't believe that Jules can date again.

Dexter learns that his biological father, Joe Driscoll, who he thought had been long dead, has only recently died and has left all of his belongings to Dexter, including his house. Dexter travels to the house with Rita. Debra and Rudy arrive there later to assist him in cleaning out the house. Dexter gets on well with Rudy, but suspects there is something strange about Joe Driscoll's death, and about the identity of Dexter's biological mother. Rudy is insistent on attending the weekend trip, and one of Joe's neighbors thinks that Rudy looks familiar. Flashbacks to Dexter's childhood show his questioning his foster father Harry about his real parents, and Dexter finds that Mr. Driscoll donated some of his blood to the young Dexter for surgery. Meanwhile, Paul begins to slide back into his old abusive habits when he suspects Rita is preventing him from having unsupervised visits to their children.

Earl finds a check from an old odd job he did and feels he cheated the government because he didn't pay taxes. When he finds out the government doesn't want his money, he tries to find unorthodox ways of repaying his debt, he and Randy trespass on the water tower and steal the flag but no one cares, a plane flies over them and jump up and down to get their attention but fall through the roof. The Government saves after three miserable days. And Earl receives a big check which he is more than happy to pay out.
