The Earth Day Special is a television special revolving around Earth Day that aired on ABC on April 22, 1990. Sponsored by Time Warner, the two hour special featured an all-star cast addressing concerns about global warming, deforestation, and other environmental ills.

Barbra Streisand portrays Yentl Mendel, a girl living in an Ashkenazi shtetl in Poland in the early 20th century. Yentl's father, Rebbe Mendel (Nehemiah Persoff), secretly instructs her in the Talmud despite the proscription of such study by women according to the custom of her community.

Jackie and Kevin have an altercation over his recent discovery but Jackie denies being an addict. Jackie returns to work where O'Hara gives her the cold shoulder. Zoey has since slept with Lenny and animosity is still rife between Coop and Sam. Kevin falls for Jackie's emotional blackmail and enrols Fiona at the same school as Grace.

Ashby hosts a party to celebrate the publication of Mia's book; Becca is devastated to catch Damien cheating on her. Charlie destroys his marriage. Ashby collapses at a most inopportune time.

Adele cuts her vacation short to come and care for Dr. Webber who is still recovering from surgery. Cristina and Meredith both express a great deal of bitterness toward their past doctoral flames. After having worked with nurse Olivia all day, George admits that he likes someone else. Alex and Izzie treat the victims from a car crash where the father needs a liver transplant, but his son doesn't want to donate because of the way his father abuses his mother. Bailey treats a man who has swallowed the heads of ten Judy dolls.

The Tick and Arthur are initiated into the League of Superheroes, while they at first enjoy the honor of being leagues men, they find the League isn't all it's cracked up to be. Meanwhile Captain Liberty and Batmanuel file a lawsuit against the League for discrimination.

Carrie decides that the basement, where Arthur's sleeps, is too cold for him to stay during a cold snap. She sets up a temporary room for him upstairs in the office to ride out the cold spell. The below-freezing temperatures last longer than they expect, and having Arthur right across the hall is more than they bargained for. When the weather finally begins to warm up, they hope that Arthur will return to his room in the basement so they can have the upstairs back to themselves again. However, it seems that Arthur has gotten quite comfortable with the new set up and has no intentions of going back to the basement.
