Wealthy American Jervis Pendleton III has a chance encounter at a French orphanage with a cheerful 18-year-old resident, Julie Andre. He anonymously pays for her education at a New England college. On his first evening he is supposed to go with the studio's star Mona Marshall to a movie premiere. But this lady doesn't want to go, so the bosses decide to use for Mona a double, Virginia. When Mona finds out next morning that happened, she insisted to fire her double and Ronny. Ronny finds work as singing waiter in a drive in, and is spotted by a director of the same studio, who wants him to lend his voice for an leading actor in a musical. After the first screening the actor is invited by Louella Parsons to sing in her program "Hollywood Hotel". He accepts, but he doesn't know that Ronny Bowers does not want to lend him his voice again. So everybody starts to play his little game to solve his own problems.

The commercial begins with a view of the Hollywood sign. A man, sits in an office, typing on his laptop, writing a screenplay, taking a moment to have a sip of the Diet Coke sitting on his desk. A group of people, actors, stand outside of a studio. As one man waits, he reads a script, drinking a Diet Coke. A production crew sets up for a movie shoot. The lighting and camera crew are all hard at work, taking time to stop at a cooler to grab an ice cold Diet Coke. A stunt man wearing a tuxedo jumps from a cliff, wearing a harness, landing on a soft pad. A blonde woman is holding a Diet Coke bottle, with a straw, as the costume crew puts the finishing touches on her, zipping up her long, silver dress. A crew puts up a new billboard for a movie. A Diet Coke cup is being filled at a soda fountain, in a movie theater, where the theater is crowded with people watching a movie. Stan tells Don he is offering to relocate to California to support Sunkist and build a west coast presence for the agency "one desk at a time." The agency receives an RFP from Hershey's Chocolate and Jim assigns Don to make a pitch. Don tells Megan he wants to move to California after spending a night in jail and suggests she could pursue her acting career there. Pete receives a telegram saying that his mother has fallen from a cruise ship and is lost at sea, and later finds out she married nanny Manolo, whom Pete blames for pushing her off. Ted comes to Peggy's apartment and says that he wants to leave his wife and be with her. Ted later reconsiders and decides he wants to move to California with his family, ostensibly to manage Sunkist but also to distance himself from his feelings for Peggy. Ted asks Don to approve the arrangement but is rejected. Don then makes a brilliant pitch to Hershey executives, but as they prepare to leave, Don reveals his real childhood to the room and tells Hershey's they don't need an ad campaign. He then decides to give Ted the Sunkist account. Ted informs Peggy and Don informs Megan of the Sunkist news, which infuriates both women. The partners have a meeting in the morning of Thanksgiving and tell Don that his unpredictable behavior has forced them to insist that he take a mandatory leave of absence of at least a few months, with Peggy filling in for Don due to Ted's impending move to Los Angeles. Pete visits Trudy on Thanksgiving before catching a flight to Los Angeles, where he is moving. Joan invites Roger over for Thanksgiving dinner, but to be in Kevin's life and not hers. Following the partner's meeting, Don picks up his children and shows them the now-dilapidated brothel he grew up in.

Bart visits several of his previous girlfriends (Gina the juvenile delinquent from "The Wandering Juvie", Darcy the pregnant teen from "Little Big Girl", Jenny the nursing home volunteer from "The Good, the Sad and the Drugly" and Nikki the new girl who flip-flopped between loving and hating Bart from "Stealing First Base") to find out why his relationships with them never lasted, until Bart realizes that there was one girl who did love him: Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel's daughter Mary from "Apocalypse Cow", who is now living in New York, so Bart resolves to track her down.

Robert Leckie and the 1st Marines land on Guadalcanal and take part in the Battle of the Tenaru. Eugene Sledge persuades his parents to allow him to join the war. The Battle of Savo Island is briefly portrayed.

Homer's obsession with Lenny's new plasma TV prompts Marge to enter the family in a sweepstakes, and they win a trip to the Fox Studio Lot. Against Marge's wishes, Homer signs them up for a "Trading Spouses"/"Wife Swap"-style reality show and is forced to take in a controlling wife, while Marge moves in with a beaten-down husband, Charlie, and his perfect son.
