The real story is that he was just riding on his skateboard and did a simple trick. When people start talking about it to others and then they pass it on, it becomes like a game of Telephone and the story grows bigger and better every time. Each time someone tells the story, they change the original video of Koston doing the simple trick to match with the story. Nick Naylor is the Vice President of and the chief spokesman for the Academy of Tobacco Studies, a tobacco lobby whose stated purpose is to research the links between smoking cigarettes and lung cancer. Unsurprisingly, the group, funded by cigarette companies, does not find any link between the two. Nick's job requires him to inform the public of these results, as well as defend the rights of smokers. The film follows his career as a talking head for Big Tobacco, appearing in both public speaking engagements and on television programs

The film begins with a voiceover from David, commenting that, whenever he gets gloomy with the state of the world, he thinks about the arrivals terminal at Heathrow Airport, and the pure, uncomplicated love felt as friends and families welcome their arriving loved ones. David's voiceover also relates that all the known messages left by the people who died on the 9/11 planes were messages of love and not hate. The film then tells the "love" story of many people, culminating in a final scene at the airport enacted to the tune of The Beach Boys' "God Only Knows", that closes their stories. The film ends with a montage of anonymous persons greeting their arriving loved ones that slowly enlarges and fills the screen, eventually forming the shape of a heart.

After saying goodbye to her brother Matt, Nora enters the device that would reunite her with those who were lost in The Departure. Many years later, an aged Kevin appears at Nora's doorstep in Australia. Nora is confused by his presence, as he seemingly has no memory of any of the events that had transpired after Mapleton. Despite his attempts at reconnecting with her, Nora continuously rebuffs him until he reveals the truth: he knew that Nora had disappeared after "crossing over" but refused to believe she was gone. He then traveled to Australia every year just to look for her, finally finding her a couple of days before. Nora then gives Kevin an account of what allegedly transpired during the procedure: she was transported to an alternate reality where 98% of the population of the planet disappeared instead of just 2%. After a lengthy journey back to Mapleton, she learned that her husband had remarried and her children happy in their lives. Nora then had the creator of the device send her back home, where she lived in Australia for the next twenty years with only Laurie (her therapist) knowing she was back; she further states that she did not tell Kevin as she was unsure if he would believe her. Kevin then tells her that he does, tearfully expresses relief that they are reunited, and holds her hand. It is left to the viewer to decide whether her account was the truth.

When a Marine Captain is killed during a mortar attack, it turns out that he was shot. The team uncovers that the man he contracted to provide soil testing hired a civilian contractor in Iraq to murder him when the captain discovers the soil sample was faked. While in Baghdad, Nikki tries to make up for a Marine mistake that led to the death of the man who helped her brother when he was wounded.

Bernard attempts to create an S.O.S. signal, but stops when Rose tells him that she wants to stay on the island because she thinks it has cured her cancer. Romantic sparks are rekindled between Jack and Kate. Locke continues to lose faith in the island. In flashbacks, Rose and Bernard have their honeymoon in Australia. Michael reappears from the jungle when Jack and Kate try to trade Henry to the Others in exchange for Walt.
