"Surprise" This commercial for Call of Duty: Black Ops II shows people playing the video game as if they were characters in the game itself (rather than sitting on their couch with a controller). It begins with a guy sitting on a tire beside a blown up truck. He is messing with a computer on his wrist and whistling like nothing is wrong even though he's in a war zone. From inside a building several blocks away, someone has this guy in their rifle scope. He is about to get shot when a girl comes up behind the guy with the rifle with futuristic throwing axes, saying only, "Surprise". As she is about to throw an ax to kill the guy, someone shoots it out of her hand, and he also says "surprise". A different guy is behind him with robotic tanks pointed at him, and he says "surprise" too. Behind this guy is Robert Downy Jr. in a hovering jet who surprises him. Someone has a drone tracking down Downy's jet with the word "Surprise" spraypainted on it. Back on the ground, a woman on a horse throws a grenade at two guys, saying "surprise boys" as she rides by. The girl on the horse is surprised by a guy with a set of flying helicopter drones, and this guy is, in turn, surprised by a missile falling from the sky. That missile was dropped by the guy who was sitting on the tire at the beginning with his wrist computer. The season opens on January 21, 1983, when a man wearing a defective parachute slams into a residential street. His body is surrounded by bags full of cocaine and an ID for a "Drew Thompson". Shifting to the present, Raylan Givens receives a phone call from a former acquaintance/romantic partner, Sharon Edmonds, who is now a bail bondswoman in Knoxville, TN. She enlists Raylan's help in finding a fugitive named Jody Adair, who is hiding out in Lexington and wanted by the Knoxville PD. Raylan finds Jody, and takes him into custody after a standoff in which Raylan subdues Jody by shooting the airbag in his Jeep, making it blow up in Jody's face. In Harlan, two teenage burglars invade Arlo Givens' old house and start breaking into a wall. They see the bag with an ID for a "Waldo Truth" in the wall, and are about to take it when they see a car with police lights approaching. They run out of the house without the bag. In the car is Constable Bob Sweeney, a local lawman who is tasked with keeping an eye on the old Givens house. Bob alerts Raylan, who shows up at the house with Jody in the trunk of his car. He and Bob find the bag, and Raylan stashes it in his trunk along with Jody. Raylan goes to a hardware store to inquire about Arlo's work on the house, and while there his car is stolen by the teenagers. Raylan, with Bob's help, tracks them to a scrapyard, where they were headed to dispose of the car. Bob provokes a scrapyard worker who gets the upper hand on him while Raylan is gone to check on the whereabouts of Jody and the teens. When both situations come to a head, and Jody puts a gun to one of the teens' head, Bob stabs the hostage in the foot and Raylan is able to get his gun and the bag back. After delivering Jody, Raylan visits his father Arlo in prison to ask Arlo about the bag in the wall. Raylan realizes the bag is a big deal after Arlo kills an inmate who saw the bag and heard Raylan asking about it.

After being encouraged to be more of a daredevil by Burt, Jimmy jumps at the chance of showing off his bolder side at a party at Frank's house. Frank and Jimmy realize they have shared a common high school bully, and when they try to take him down, they realize their old bully has changed.

Earl and Randy ask Catalina to return to her old job at the strip club, but they don't tell her that they need her to do it so that the club's owner will pay for Joy's bail. When Catalina does find out about Joy's bail she angrily rejects it. So Joy decides to perform at Club Chubby for her bail but is nervous so she drinks alcohol to calm her nerves, but she is too drunk and throws up on the audience. Catalina sees how stressed out Earl is and decides to take back her job saying "When I jump, I jump for Earl I would never jump for Joy".

Marshall takes a job at Barney's company and tries to fit in with his new crass coworkers.

Earl goes back to the Camp for Troubled Boys to make up for #164 "Burned down a barn at camp" that got him and his relatives banned from the camp, so that Joy's kids can go. After building an Ostrich pen to make up for it, Earl finds out that Randy burnt down the barn. This means that Randy is responsible for all of Earl's bad doings after that point, which is about 200 things.

The group spends New Year in a limo Ted rented. They try to make it to five big parties and plan to ring in the New Year at the best one.

While Earl and Randy were in high school, Earl fixes their school football game to win a bet with a store owner, but realizes that he forced Randy to give up a touchdown that he would've gotten. Earl sends Randy back to high school to get his touchdown back, but finds out that Joy had his car impounded since he refused to give her any of his lotto money. Earl and Randy go to the impound yard to get the car back, but Earl has to pay $3000 for unpayed parking tickets. Meanwhile, during Randy's game, Earl and Catalina were there to give him support, and Randy almosts gets a touchdown, but fumbles the ball, which costs his team the game. Earl finds out that Joy got the $3000 to get his lotto money, but Randy drives up with his car and his money, and Randy told him that he fumbled the ball on purpose to win a bet for $3000.
