Piper is awakened in solitary and, without being given any information, is forced to board a bus and a plane to whereabouts unknown. After she lands, and finally realizing she is in Chicago, Piper assumes she has been transferred for killing Doggett and attempts to adjust to her new surroundings. Following an an altercation with other inmates, and later seeing and speaking with Vause, Piper discovers she is in Chicago to testify in the trial of Vause's drug boss, Kubra Balik, and the stay is temporary. Vause suggests to Piper they lie in court about knowing Kubra, fearing he will exact revenge if they tell the truth. However, Piper wishes to tell the truth. Several flashbacks from Piper's childhood reveal her complicated past. Piper meets with her lawyer, who strongly advises her to tell the truth. In the van on the way to the trial, Vause pushes one last time for Piper to lie about knowing Kubra, saying she (Vause) will be screwed over if they don't tell the same story. Piper gives in and perjures herself at the trial. Afterwards, her lawyer washes his hands of her. Vause then informs Piper that although she planned to lie, she told the truth, which complicates matters for Piper, who now faces perjury charges and additional time. Piper shouts angrily at Vause, who is being led out of prison, ostensibly to be released.

The CDC comes to the hospital to investigate the post-op infections in Dr. Bailey's patients. Tensions flare when Jackson doesn't side with the rest of the board in supporting Dr. Bailey. Meredith wants Cristina present during her labor. Matthew asks April to give him a second chance. Alex admits to Cristina that he loves Jo. The CDC investigation concludes that the cause of the infection is in the surgical gloves used during Dr. Bailey's surgeries.

Liz and Jack argue over her contract. Kenneth is reassigned after being offended by his coworkers at TGS, and Tracy and Jenna's accountant hires them as entertainment at a bar mitzvah.

Michael thanks them for their help by treating them to one item each at Victoria's Secret. Pam is visibly upset when she overhears Phyllis helping Karen pick out a sexy outfit for Jim. Pam buys a robe because she is "between boyfriends" but can cut the robe into new hand towels. Later, she takes a step toward asserting herself by changing a flat tire on Meredith's car. At the office, Kevin sneaks into the women's bathroom and discovers a plush waiting room. The other men soon join him. Upon returning to the office, Michael calls Jan to end their relationship, unwisely doing so by leaving a voice mail message. Jan walks into his office to apologize in person for their earlier conversation, but when she receives Michael's voice mail, she storms out of the office.

Valchek strikes a deal with Acting Commissioner Burrell-in return for supporting Burrell in his aspirations for promotion, Valchek demands Burrell set up a detail to investigate Sobotka and his union. Sobotka, angry at not being informed of the container's contents, considers cutting his ties with The Greek and demands a meeting. "Horseface" complains of sudden police pressure to Sobotka and the two come up with a plan to further embarrass Valchek. In prison, Avon Barksdale's relationship with his nephew D'Angelo begins to sour. Bodie Broadus finds that the new shipment of drugs for the Barksdale Organization is missing.

Principal Skinner hires Fat Tony's construction company to build wheelchair ramps for the school. These ramps promptly break down, forcing Skinner to close down Springfield Elementary. However, a toy company led by Jim Hope takes over the school; in school, the children are only taught to provide marketing schemes and suggestions. Soon, a new toy called Funzo that mysteriously resembles the children's ideas is invented. After a brief showdown Gary Coleman and the Funzo, things return to normal as Burns decides to fund the school after a visit from the three Christmas spirits.
