Picking up in April 1970, Don has resumed his womanizing ways as a bachelor. He has a cryptic dream about Rachel Menken and attempts to reconnect with her, only to learn she recently died of leukemia. He also encounters a waitress named Diana at a diner, convinced they have met before, but she insists they are strangers. Peggy and Joan attend a business meeting at McCann Erickson, during which Joan is sexually harassed; this results in an argument between Peggy and Joan after the meeting. Roger and Ferguson fire Ken Cosgrove, who subsequently takes over his father-in-law's position at Dow Chemical and informs Roger and Pete that he will actively make Dow a difficult client to them, out of spite. Peggy goes on a date with Johnny Mathis' brother-in-law. The date goes well, and the two make impromptu plans to travel to Paris, but these plans are put on hold as Peggy cannot find her passport. The next morning she dismisses the experience as drunken foolishness.

Megan acts coldly towards Nancy as she resents her for destroying Silas's childhood. Doug decides to reconnect with his estranged gay son Josh and orders his cult members to kidnap him. Only after his second attempt (and admission that he once "sucked a dick," which seems to break the ice) do both of them reconcile. At Stevie's Bar Mitzvah he stuns the guests with his speech informing everyone of his true father's past, his lack of faith in religion and his desire to attend boarding school before promptly leaving. Nancy obliges his request to go to boarding school despite the possibility of being lonely with the rest of her family moving on. At the after party, Nancy and Andy talk and she begs him to come back, even offering him her share of the company. He declines and tells her instead that she is free to do what she wants with her life. Nancy also talks to Silas, who comforts her by admitting that although she wasn't the best mother he doesn't regret his childhood. Finally she tells Shane to fix his life, who agrees to take time off and go to rehabilitation. Nancy decides to give up the weed business and calls the CEO of the company, agreeing to sell it to Starbucks. Before the party ends Stevie thanks everyone for their contributions in his life and offers a heartfelt thank you to his mother for all that she has done for him. Nancy retires to the porch to be alone. She is soon joined by Doug, Silas, Shane and Andy. They all share a joint, smiling contentedly.

Around Christmas, Lane is instructed by his London attorney to wire $8,000 to England within two days for back taxes, or else he risks being arrested. Lane, in fear, forges a check from Don. Harry meets with Paul Kinsey, who has joined the Hare Krishnas and has written a terrible spec script for the series Star Trek. Harry later pays for a trip for Paul to Los Angeles so Paul can try to break into script writing. Joan is served divorce papers, and after an outburst to the office receptionist, she and Don go to a bar for a drink and have an intimate chat. Meanwhile, Pete reveals that Jaguar is again looking for an advertising firm, and that presentations will start in mid-January.

Wilfred comes into Ryan's yard. After a conversation about loyalty, Wilfred convinces Ryan to take him to the beach, which displays a "No Dogs Allowed" sign, and challenges him to prove his loyalty by allowing him to roam the beach. After Ryan lets him, the two bond more, and spend the day hanging out. When Ryan drops Wilfred off, Jenna asks Ryan to trick Wilfred into going to the dentist to get his teeth cleaned. Ryan, torn between Wilfred's trust and his attraction to Jenna, reluctantly accepts, and tricks Wilfred by telling him they are going to the movies. While going under anesthesia, Wilfred states that Jenna "has a dick". Ryan tries to figure out if she does when she comes over for dinner later that night, ultimately unnerving Jenna, who leaves early. Wilfred then convinces Ryan to go tell Jenna that he has feelings for her. Ryan goes to Jenna, gives her flowers, and is about to do so, but her boyfriend, Drew (Chris Klein), comes out and introduces himself, crushing Ryan. Wilfred then explains he meant to say Jenna has a "dick for a boyfriend", and suggests the lie was payback for betraying him with the trip to the vet.
