During Reagan and Chris's annual New Year's Eve game night, Reagan's competitiveness comes out causing Chris to become embarrassed. Meanwhile, Missy brings an unusual date along to the party and, Kevin starts to feel as though Ava may be ashamed of him.

Hank, Runkle and the rest of the guys from the film-project group have dinner with an important investor. Afterwards when they go to the investor's house, things get complicated when Runkle accidentally kills the investor's pet monkey. The investor dies from an erotic act.

After a family visit to the public aquarium during which Japanese people slaughter all the dolphins, Stan takes on the cause of saving the dolphins and whales from Japanese whalers. He joins Paul Watson and his crew on the television show Whale Wars but find them to be ineffective publicity seekers. After Watson is killed by whalers, Stan becomes the new captain of the ship and leads a much more successful campaign against Japanese whaling by employing more aggressive methods. After Japanese pilots launch kamikaze attacks on his ship, Stan and his crew are captured and brought to Japan. They learn the whaling efforts are a retaliation for the bombing of Hiroshima, as they believe that the Enola Gay bomber was piloted by a dolphin and a killer whale. The boys convince the Japanese officials that the pilots were actually a cow and a chicken, prompting the Japanese to cease their whaling efforts and begin a vendetta against cows and chickens, slaughtering them instead.

The team re-examines the 1995 murder of a homeless 17-year-old skateboarding prodigy who was trying to earn enough money to get himself off the streets. The victim is seen by his younger brother and Lilly Rush at the skate park.

The team reopens the 1998 case of a murdered 17-year-old girl when her father is arrested for beating another child. During the investigation, the team finds evidence that the victim was involved with a group of neo-nazis who were suspected of another unsolved murder around the same time. Lilly sees the victim sitting on the stairwell in the case room. The other victim is seen by Lt. Stillman as her body is uncovered.

When a nurse confesses to six incidents of mercy killing, the team reopens the 1998 case of a terminally ill businessman who died while under the nurse's care, and discovers he had made many enemies throughout his career. The victim's wife and son see the victim looking over them from a bridge. The victim's wife, the murderer, is not arrested because the victim asked her to end his suffering.

The suicide of a high school outcast in 1994 is reinvestigated as a murder when a missing piece of his suicide note turns up, indicating that he may have been fearing for his life right before his death. Lilly sees the victim through a chain-link fence. The victim's death was an accident; the killer is charged with involuntary manslaughter but he isn't seen under arrest.
