While they're having dinner at a restaurant a man who's in the wig business, tells Doug that Carrie has beautiful hair that is worth $3000 if she cuts it all off and sells it. Doug convinces Carrie to do it, but regrets the whole thing when Carrie ends up with a really horrible, short, boyish haircut.

When Julius gets food stamps, Rochelle feels ashamed to use them when she goes for the weekly shopping as she runs into Shelia while paying with food stamps and decides to pay with money that was supposed to last her the whole month. Meanwhile, at Corleone Junior High, Chris and Greg have a heated argument about their science project which is eventually short lived after forgiving each other during a fist to fist fight as their new partners hold their items.

Chris is asked by his mother to accompany his siblings while they "trick or treat" on Halloween. When Drew is invited to a party by Keisha, Chris goes in his place dressed as Prince. Meanwhile, Julius buys inexpensive generic brands of candy causing a counterattack from Rochelle.

Doug is deeply disturbed when he discovers that Carrie has been purchasing his clothes at the Big and Tall shop. He asks Carrie her true feelings about his weight, and although she doesn't want to hurt his feelings, she admits that she wouldn't be upset if he lost some weight. Since they are being honest with each other, Doug tells Carrie that she wears too much make-up. They both agree to work on their flaws and make some changes. Doug starts working out at the gym, and Carrie eases up on the make-up application. When Carrie gets compliments the next day at work about how great she looks, Doug is jealous and starts naming other flaws that Carrie should work on. He tells her she has a big forehead and a terrible accent, but feels bad when his nit-picking makes her self-conscious. Meanwhile, Arthur has started carrying around a legless "Safety Man" to protect himself from neighborhood thugs.
