In a flashback to the late 1990s, a middle school-aged Earn (Alkoya Brunson) comes to school wearing a yellow FUBU shirt he ecstatically picked from Marshalls . However, another student named Devin Meyers comes to school wearing an extremely similar shirt and word quickly spreads that one or both are counterfeit; ridicule from upperclassmen also accompany these accusations. Once the school day ends, Earn is close to being exposed but Alfred (Abraham Clinkscales) interjects and deflects the accusations onto Devin. The following day, Earn's homeroom class is informed that Devin committed suicide, with early theories stating that the choice stemmed from trauma from his parents' divorce compounded with the bullying; the latter appears to be unknown to faculty. Earn is guilt-ridden but keeps it to himself. Alfred, alternatively, seems apathetic.

As the Gatsby premiere nears, Eric asks Sloan to accompany him "as friends," only to realize that it's not what he wants. Ari arranges a friend date between Mrs. Gold and Andrew's wife, and Ari is not pleased when he finds out a secret about Andrew. Meanwhile, Lloyd goes on a crash diet per Ari's demand, Drama gets a date to the premiere, and Turtle makes his red-carpet debut with Jamie-Lynn Sigler on his arm.

The Barksdale/Stanfield war continues to intensify with deaths on both sides. Avon refuses to accept Stringer's advice to follow the co-op's proposal for a truce. Lester Freamon overcomes the problem by organizing to supply the Barksdale Organization with pre-wiretapped phones. Cutty opens a boxing gym for local children but finds his poor equipment and their behavior difficult to deal with.

Daniels sees the reason his unit was reassigned from Pimlico and tells McNulty he will have to leave as he cannot trust him. The unit find that the drug dealers are using disposable phones and begin to formulate an investigative strategy. Marlo dispatches a drive-by on a Barksdale corner from the calm of his pigeon coop. Carcetti pressures the mayor over witness protection. The Western District officers begin to become dissatisfied with policing Colvin's tolerant zones.

After meeting Jimmy Kimmel at a boxing after-party in L.A., Vince agrees to appear on his show--despite a long-standing rift between Kimmel and Drama. Eric and Kristen share a long good-bye.
