Freamon and McNulty stage a call from the killer to Templeton and send him the photographs to get the picture intercept equipment they need. Carcetti authorizes resources for the investigation and McNulty finally has the funds he hoped for. Bunk interviews Michael about the vacant murders but learns nothing. Omar attacks more of Stanfield's people and damages his reputation on the street at every opportunity. After a spectacular courtroom performance Davis is acquitted of the corruption charges. Kima Greggs reconnects with her ex-girlfriend's son. Haynes investigates his suspicions about Templeton and learns that Templeton has lied about his reporting. Former Baltimore police detective John Munch briefly visits Kavanaugh's Bar.

Tonya becomes a troublemaker at home and blames her brother when caught. Chris decides to avoid Tonya's instigating by going over to his friend Greg's house in Brooklyn Beach after school. While there, Chris finds out that Greg is not allowed to have friends over without permission and is forced to hide in the closet when his father arrives home. During his absence, Tonya gets into trouble when she tries to blame Chris, only to discover he is not there and Drew declares "wasn't me."

The film follows high school senior Ferris Bueller from the North Shore, who, one spring day (after eight previous absences throughout the semester; nine total including this "day off"), decides to skip school again and spend the day in downtown Chicago with his girlfriend Sloane Peterson and his best friend Cameron Frye while creatively avoiding his school's dean of students Mr. Edward Rooney, his resentful sister Jeanie, and his parents. Bueller frequently breaks the fourth wall to explain to the audience his techniques and thoughts. In the opening scene, graphics appear onscreen illustrating his explanations.
