It is May 1970. Don sells his apartment. At work, Johnny Mathis fumbles a pitch and seeks Don's advice. When Don advises him to make a joke, Mathis' attempt goes over horribly, and he blames Don for it, lashing out at him. Don fires Mathis. Joan goes on a trip to California and begins an affair with a retiree named Richard (Bruce Greenwood). Richard initially rejects her when he learns Joan has a child, but later makes amends. As Sally prepares to go on a 12-day school trip, she is unexpectedly visited by Glen Bishop, who reveals that he is shipping out to Vietnam. At first he claims he is doing so for ideological reasons, but later he reveals to Betty that he flunked out of college and attempts to make a move on her. After witnessing inappropriate flirtation between Betty and Glen, and later between Don and one of her friends, Sally is further disillusioned with both parents.

The Gallaghers celebrate Thanksgiving. After Hank shoots a few ducks for dinner with his rifle, Carl accidentally shoots a bald eagle with a gun he found. Lip now anxious, prepares himself for the arrival of his baby by creating a movie for when the child grows up. Estefania's boyfriend Marco finally shows up as Steve agrees to let him use his identity. Frank tries to get his share of his mother's money from his brother Clayton. Ian sleeps with a older businessman named Ned. As the Gallaghers celebrate thanksgiving through a dinner, Monica attempts to commit suicide, abruptly ending the family's gathering. Karen goes into labor, her baby is born as the Gallaghers see that the baby isn't really Lip's, causing disappointment for Lip. Sheila steals the baby from the maternity ward while Frank passes out on a sidewalk.

Fisher & Diaz brims with activity after receiving a trio of unrelated deaths; Ruth stays optimistic on Lisa's whereabouts. Claire is visited by Russell who begs for forgiveness and later finds out important information about her health.

A snowstorm traps the students of Springfield Elementary inside, with them overthrowing Principal Skinner when he uses his Army skills to control them. Meanwhile, Homer tries to rescue the children--using Flanders' car.
