The Messenger is a 2009 war drama film starring Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson, Steve Buscemi, Jena Malone, and Samantha Morton. It is the directorial debut of Oren Moverman, who also wrote the screenplay with Alessandro Camon. The film premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and was in competition at Berlin International Film Festival 2009 where it won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay and the Berlinale Peace Film Award '09. The film received first prize for the 2009 Deauville American Film Festival. The film has also received four Independent Spirit Award nominations (including one win), a Golden Globe nomination, and two Academy Award nominations.

Freeman and stars Mila Kunis as Rachael Newman, a driven criminology student who is drawn to murder. The film also features William Shatner as a professor.

Don's Plum is a 2001 low-budget black and white drama film directed by R. D. Robb. Robb co-wrote it with Bethany Ashton, Tawd Hackman, David Stutman, and Dale Wheatley. The film features Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Connolly and Tobey Maguire, who make crude jokes while hanging out in a Los Angeles diner. It was filmed in 1995-96. It was later agreed between DiCaprio, Maguire, Stutman, Wheatley and Jerry Meadors that the film would be released outside the US and Canada only. It premiered on February 10, 2001, in Berlin, Germany. Time Out New York writer Mike D'Angelo called it, "the best film [I saw] in Berlin". Variety Magazine called it an "unpleasant and tedious ensemble."

Desert Blue is a 1998 American comedy/drama film directed by Morgan J. Freeman and starring Brendan Sexton III, Kate Hudson, Christina Ricci, Casey Affleck, Sara Gilbert, and John Heard. The story centers on a rising Hollywood starlet (Hudson) who becomes "marooned" in a small desert town while on a roadtrip with her father. There, she gets to know the town's rather eccentric residents, including one (Ricci) whose hobby is pipe bombs and another (Sexton) who is trying to carry out his father's dream of building a waterpark in the desert.

The episode takes place months after the plane crash. Callie and Derek are heart broken when they realize that they have to take Mark off of life support; Meredith continues to try to get Cristina on a plane to Seattle. Alex worries that the new peds surgeon will destroy Arizona's program now that Arizona is gone. Frustrated with past decisions, particularly those pertaining to the crash, Owen goes to April and confesses that he shouldn't have taken her job and she needs to come back. Meanwhile, Meredith has become the new Bailey; being cold and ruthless with her students, who have given her the name 'Medusa'. On the other hand, Bailey finds out she has the new nickname 'BCB' or 'Booty Call Bailey' when her interns notice that she gets very happy when Ben comes into town. At the end of the episode, it is revealed that Arizona did survive to return home, but had to have her leg amputated by Callie, who she resents because of it.

Megan acts coldly towards Nancy as she resents her for destroying Silas's childhood. Doug decides to reconnect with his estranged gay son Josh and orders his cult members to kidnap him. At the after party, Nancy and Andy talk and she begs him to come back, even offering him her share of the company. He declines and tells her instead that she is free to do what she wants with her life. Nancy also talks to Silas, who comforts her by admitting that although she wasn't the best mother he doesn't regret his childhood. Finally she tells Shane to fix his life, who agrees to take time off and go to rehabilitation. Nancy decides to give up the weed business and calls the CEO of the company, agreeing to sell it to Starbucks. Before the party ends Stevie thanks everyone for their contributions in his life and offers a heartfelt thank you to his mother for all that she has done for him. Nancy retires to the porch to be alone. She is soon joined by Doug, Silas, Shane and Andy. They all share a joint, smiling contentedly.
