Jeremy decides to return to his hobby of sketching fantasy creatures that he had stopped upon the death of his parents. Logan attacks and kills several people throughout the town. Alaric helps with a small dispute among Jeremy, Tyler and Mayor Lockwood. Logan kidnaps Caroline after a dispute with the sheriff, but Stefan and Damon save her.

The gang hits the road to Charlotte where Brooke is determined to win first place at the annual cheerleading competition. But when one of her squad falls ill, Peyton begs Haley to step into a cheerleader's shoes for a day. J.D. must look after a social worker, Alex, who slipped in the hospital and winds up stuck in an MRI machine. They flirt, but J.D. is reluctant to ask her out without knowing what she looks like. Elliot tries to gain Dr. Cox's favor the way J.D. has. Turk is angry at Carla and she can't figure out why.
