Mulan is a 1998 American animated feature film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation, and released by Walt Disney Pictures on June 19, 1998. The thirty-sixth animated feature in the Disney animated features canon, and a part of the Disney Renaissance, the film is based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan.

When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Chinese Army to defend the country from Huna, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. She is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. Disguised as a man by the name of Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her innermost strength and embrace her true potential. The show centers around John (John Mulaney), a comedian living in New York City with his roommates Jane (Nasim Pedrad), a personal trainer, and Motif (Seaton Smith), another comedian. John is often given advice by his neighbor Oscar (Elliott Gould), and annoyed by his friend Andre (Zack Pearlman). John's life changes when he's hired as a writer for Lou Cannon (Martin Short), a legendary comedian and game show host.
