Kevin royally bombs his audition, but his Tony-nominated scene partner begrudgingly tells him he got the role because of his The Manny fame; in a flashback, Kevin is shown to have been insecure since childhood, which may have led him to acting. Kate gets a job from Toby's ex-wife Josie, who Toby professes is not the angel she seems to be; in fact, her affairs led to his weight gain and caused him to contemplate suicide. Kevin temporarily moves in with Randall.

Kristina and Adam don't agree about whether they should allow Max run for class president. Despite Adam's reservations, Kristina encourages Max even though she might not have the time to help him. Meanwhile, Crosby and Jasmine need to sit with their son and have "the talk" after Jabbar hears the "n" word. Sarah grows closer to her new boss while entertaining his daughter and Zeek finds a potential new friend in someone younger. Victor joins in an after school activity giving Julia and Joel a glimpse of what their future family could be.

Clea continues to force Martin to return Jake to the institution, which he gives in and does despite his new-found communication with Jake. However, Jake then leads Martin to a pawn shop owner named Arnie (Jude Ciccolella). Moments later a robber comes in and shoots Arnie, and although Arnie survives he does not look pleased that he did. Jake escapes the institution to help Martin piece things together; at the same time a flight attendant (Amy Sloan) helps a young Indian man carry his father's ashes to the New York Stadium; a Russian boy realizes that the reason he may have no friends is because his father hurts people; Arnie attempts to commit suicide as he is suffering from terminal cancer and fears that he has no one to love him. In the end, the Russian boy's father was the employer of the robber of the pawn shop, who gives him a second chance in life. The flight attendant was Arnie's daughter, who arrives abruptly and agrees to stand by him. The young Indian man finds an entrance to the stadium and spreads his father's ashes in the center of the field in hopes of finally making his father proud.

Crosby buys a house to win back Jasmine, Adam stresses over Haddie's prom, and Sarah works on her play while worrying about Amber's future.

In an effort to prove himself capable of working without House's supervision, Foreman takes on his own pediatric case. But when the unexplained illness brings the child to the brink of death, Foreman is left questioning his ability to work free from House's custody.
