Kimmy enrolls into an adult GED class in an attempt to pass the eighth grade. There, she encounters a teacher (Richard Kind) that could not care less for her education, and would much rather screw up until he's placed in a room where he can do nothing. He uses his tenure as a stand for never actually getting fired. Kimmy, who is vehemently against this, enlists her classmates - including a Vietnamese immigrant named Dong Nguyen (Ki Hong Lee) - to fight against the teacher.

Ben, April, Andy, Donna, Tom, and Terry trap Ron and Leslie in the old Parks and Recreation department overnight so the two can work out their differences. It is revealed that Morningstar, the project that drove the wedge between her and Ron, was Ron's construction company, Very Good, was bulldozing houses near Pawnee Commons, including Ann Perkins' old house, to make way for an apartment building. Ron reveals that after Leslie took April, Andy, and Terry to work with her, and Tom and Donna left to run their businesses, he got lonely for his old friends and one day, he suddenly didn't recognize anyone in the department. He decided to ask Leslie for a job in the National Park Service during lunch the following day, but when her schedule got so hectic and she stood him up for lunch, and he decided to quit. The two finally reconcile through the power of alcohol, and the rest of the former department find a very confusing scene the next morning. Ron later meets Leslie for lunch and gives her a picture frame made of Ann's front door.

Murray invites a bored pops into his store, but in doing so he leaves himself open to plenty of criticism. Meanwhile, Dana comes over to study with Adam, who receives questionable advice from Erica and Barry.

When James reveals that he is getting divorced, Robin worries about how Barney will take the news. Meanwhile, Marshall races to find a way to get to New York in time for the wedding, and Ted deals with being alone at a romantic hotel.

Fiona continues her new office job including playing a job softball game. Jimmy breaks the news to her about returning to medical school; he also tells the news to Beto who says it'll be difficult to get Estefania to move with him. Frank continues his new found fame as a spokesperson for a gay rights movement including attracting an anti-gay rights group that wants to "cure" him of his homosexuality by giving him women to have sex with. With that promise, and getting double the pay and a better hotel, Frank scams both groups. Eventually, Frank is caught by the gay-rights group. The second time Lip visits Karen in the hospital he finds out from Sheila about the text message sent from his phone. He didn't send it but doesn't tell anyone yet. Karen responds to Jody's touch so he starts performing oral sex on her; then she recovers from her coma. Ian finds out from Mandy that the woman Mickey is marrying is the same woman he was forced to have sexual intercourse with when Mickey's dad found them having sex. He tells Lip, who advises him to try and move on. Veronica and Kev find out that her mother is pregnant. Jimmy tells Fiona he must go to Michigan to finish attending medical school there. He asks her about coming there to live with him and that the kids can come if she wants, leaving her in dismay. She doesn't want to be apart from him for a year.

On a visit to Harvard University, Quagmire accidentally marries a prostitute. In an attempt to get out of the marriage, he pretends that he and Peter are actually lovers.

Jim and Pam are invited to Pam's former fiance Roy Anderson's wedding. A toast that Roy gives leads to Pam and Jim searching their relationships for buried secrets. Meanwhile, Dwight reacts to Nellie's mandatory charity initiative by maintaining that he will donate the money he raises to the Taliban, and Clark hits on Erin by dangling a fake newscaster job, but Andy takes the bait.

Jess's sophisticated date with Russell doesn't go as planned. Meanwhile, Nick's college friend visits and brings out Nick's inner frat boy to help him get over his break-up with Julia. Winston panics when Shelby goes on a "girls" vacation and Schmidt and Cece try to keep their relationship under the covers, but one of the friends finds out their secret.

In order to hide his relationship with Lynn (Susan Sarandon) from his mother (Patti LuPone), Frank pretends to be Liz's boyfriend. Meanwhile, Jack mentors Kenneth and Tracy and Jenna search for Pete's whisky.

Leslie and Ben run into Dave (Louis C.K.) while meeting with the Chief of Police. Andy searches for a song to represent Leslie's campaign.

The McKinley High school musical West Side Story is readied for performance, with Artie as lead director, and opens. Finn meets with a football recruiter, whom Coach Beiste gains as an admirer. Kurt and Blaine reach a new, physical stage in their relationship, as do Rachel and Finn. The Dalton Academy Warblers return.

Tara seems to be making progress with her new contract and therapy with Dr. Hattaras as her alters seem to have found a way to co-exist and life is good. They are respecting each other's space, only coming out when it's agreeable to all. But Dr. Hattaras discovers something disturbing in an audio tape from one her therapy sessions. Much to the sisters' chagrin, Neil invites Tara and Charmaine's judgemental mother, Bev, to visit her grandchild. Neil however has an alterior motive to ask Bev for money, but she tells them that she is broke after recently putting her Alzheimers-striken husband into hospice care. As a result, Neil decides to leave town (and Charmaine) for a while in order to go looking for work. Meanwhile, Max is unhappy at his new job but can't talk to Tara about it because he knows that any stress will cause Tara's alters to re-emerge. Also, Marshall and Noah trade ideas on what their next video project should be and find inspiration in old videos of Tara and Max. Elsewhere, newly licenced flight attendant Kate is surprised when a handsome flyer, named Evan, rebuffs her flirting.
