In the episode, Homer is banned from Moe's Tavern and struggles to find a new bar. When he destroys a plane after being mistaken for a pilot at a pilots-only bar, the airline buys the Simpsons' silence with free tickets. The family discovers that Marge is afraid of flying.

When Dr. Cox fumes at Dr. Kelso for firing another staff member due to budget cuts, Dr. Kelso challenges him to balance the budget without firing anyone. Meanwhile, a sitcom writer is admitted, and J.D. starts to fantasize about what it would be like if the hospital were a sitcom, complete with a live audience. Also, Turk and Carla have difficulty trying to keep the romance in their relationship going.

Barney is accidentally called "Swarley" by Chloe, the coffeehouse waitress. Ted and Marshall stick with this nickname for the whole episode. Marshall goes on his first real date post-Lily with Chloe. Ted and Barney try to convince him the girl is crazy. Lily stalks Chloe and eventually she and Marshall reunite.

All the friends go to London, except for Phoebe, who's pregnant and Rachel, who thinks it will be too painful to see Ross get married, and tells Ross she has to work. The building where Ross and Emily schedule to get married has been torn down a few days early, but they decide to marry there anyway. Richard Branson cameos as a souvenir stand salesman, and Sarah Ferguson appears in a video with Joey.

In the episode, Homer tells Moe Szyslak of a secret alcoholic cocktail that includes cough syrup and fire that he calls "Flaming Homer". Moe steals the recipe from Homer, renames the drink the "Flaming Moe" and begins selling it at his tavern. The drink is a success and boosts business and patronage, but Homer is angry at Moe for his betrayal, and seeks revenge.

A man, Stan, walks into the convenience store of a gas station and is immediately greeted by name by everyone inside the store. Everyone from the police man/security guard, to the guy mopping the floor to the woman working the cash register - they all know his name, because of his frequent stops to fill up his car with gas. The theme music from the television show 'Cheers' plays, then abruptly stops when another man, name unknown enters to buy a bottle of water. The bottles come to life and leave the soda aisle, and walk through the store to find the candy/dessert aisle, where they are enthusiastically greeted by the cakes and candies. "State Of Anonymity (Cheers)" This commercial features the Cheers theme song (Where Everybody Knows Your Name) and people getting into accidents and being in other situations where they need insurance. The ad begins with fast motion video in a city of various things from people walking on the street, to activities in a park, and boats on a river. Then we see a man who just got in an accident checking out his car. People are yelling at him because his car is in the way in the intersection, and as the camera zooms up, we see the entire intersection is gridlocked with damaged cars and traffic. Next is a bike messenger whose bike just got stolen - the lock is there, but the bike is gone. Next is a woman in her apartment, and there is water dripping through her ceiling and she's trying to catch it with a bucket, but isn't having much luck due to the amount of water coming down. All of these people pick up their cell phones and call their State Farm insurance agent, and soon things are in motion to get the problems fixed. An agent is out checking a residential neighborhood where a large tree branch just smashed a car, but that is taken car of too. Everyone receives a check to pay for the repairs and ends up happy again. It seems these days, the more technologically connected we've become, the more isolated we've become on a human level. Cheers is an American situation comedy television series that ran eleven seasons from 1982 to 1993. It was produced by Charles-Burrows-Charles Productions in association with Paramount Television for NBC, having been created by the team of James Burrows, Glen Charles, and Les Charles. The show is set in the Cheers bar (named for the toast "Cheers") in Boston, Massachusetts, where a group of locals meet to drink and have fun.
