Mayor Kane makes a professional turn to a new way of doing things when he extricates the housing project from the corruption that plagues his entire city.

Detective Stabler is paired with John "Hawk" Hawkins (David Keith), an unstable, "cowboy" cop. They try to catch a serial rapist and murderer. Their suspect is a recently released prisoner, who was put in jail years ago due to Hawk. Alas, they come to deduce that not only is the predator someone else, but that the former prisoner is innocent of the previous murders, which means Hawk was responsible for putting an innocent man behind bars.

Minelli decides to assign the Red John case to Agent Sam Bosco, when he thinks that Lisbon and Patrick are too close to the case. Patrick thereafter decides to solve "one more case" then leave the CBI. They investigate the murder of a woman who is found suffocated after being accused of stealing a million dollars from her employer.

Ari squares off against Alan Gray in a golf game in an attempt to get a role for Vince, only to have Alan continue to be his usual angry and vindictive self. After causing a televised car chase, Dom asks Vince to bail him out, but only Eric - who still doesn't trust Dom - can afford it. Desperate for a job, Turtle agrees to be Drama's personal assistant.
