In the episode, Michael brings the office on a booze cruise and plans on doing some "motivational" speaking. After he learns that the captain of the boat has other plans, a power struggle emerges. Meanwhile, Pam and Roy's previously stagnant relationship blossoms, while Jim and Katy's begins to falter.

In a flashback, Jimmy and his friend con a bar patron using a fake Rolex watch. In 2002, Jimmy offers his legal services to the Kettlemans; they reject his offer and counter with a $30,000 bribe. Jimmy successfully frees Nacho, but Nacho deduces that Jimmy warned the Kettlemans and warns him about "consequences". Jimmy uses the bribe money to purchase clothing and a billboard that exactly imitates Hamlin and HHM's logo. Hamlin obtains a cease and desist order and forces Jimmy to take the billboard down. Jimmy uses this as a way to try to make Hamlin look bad through college media, and in the meanwhile stages a rescue of a billboard worker who has fallen off. The next day, Jimmy's actions make it on the news, much to Hamlin's disgust. Jimmy then makes his daily drop off at Chuck's, but keeps the local paper out of his supplies. With great distress, Chuck runs outside to take the neighbor's newspaper and reads about Jimmy's act.

After Evelyn tells Alan and Charlie how she feels about there being no mourners at her friend's funeral, the boys share their feelings that this could also be the case at hers. Evelyn tries to prove them wrong by introducing them to a couple she helped adopt a boy from China and pushing them out of the picture, literally.

In a flashback to Cicero, Illinois, Jimmy says goodbye to his friend and con artist partner Marco, telling him that he is moving to Albuquerque. In the present, Jimmy meets with Howard Hamlin to receive his $20,000 "of counsel" fee, and to discuss arrangements for delivering groceries and supplies to Chuck. After having a breakdown while calling Bingo at the retirement home, Jimmy then returns to Cicero where he catches up with Marco at their usual bar. They run a rare coin scam on an out-of-town businessman with a Kennedy half dollar. Over the next week, they run several successful scams. One morning, Jimmy explains to Marco that he is now an elder law attorney and must return to Albuquerque. Marco insists on one last fake Rolex scam for kicks but succumbs to a heart attack during the con. A grieving Jimmy, now wearing Marco's pinky ring, receives a phone call from Kim. A large Santa Fe firm, Davis & Mane, is assisting with the class action suit and considering Jimmy for partner. Jimmy returns to Albuquerque, but backs out of the Davis & Mane meeting. He asks Mike why they gave back the embezzled $1.6 million, then proclaims that whatever stopped him from taking it "is never stopping [him] again." Jimmy drives away, smiling and humming "Smoke on the Water", the same song Marco hummed whenever they pulled off the Rolex scam.

In the present, Jimmy under his Gene persona in Omaha, Nebraska, accidentally locks himself in the mall's dumpster room, but because of the need to conceal his past he is unable to force himself to use the emergency exit, which will summon the authorities. When he's finally let out, he leaves behind the words "SG WAS HERE" carved in the wall. Back in 2002, Jimmy decides to decline Davis & Main's employment offer and closes down his practice. Kim confronts Jimmy about his odd behavior, but Jimmy is adamant about leaving the practice of law. Instead, Jimmy ropes Kim into conning a stock trader into buying them expensive drinks and food, and then paying their tab. Thrilled by the experience, Kim spends the night with Jimmy. Meanwhile, Pryce fires Mike, since he believes he no longer needs a bodyguard. Nacho takes advantage of Mike's absence to steal Pryce's personal information. Some time later, Pryce's house is burglarized and he calls the police. The responding officers are suspicious about the nature of the burglary and investigate further, finding a hidden compartment behind Pryce's couch. After some thought on the matter, Jimmy changes his mind and decides to take the job with Davis & Main.

Berger breaks up with Carrie on a Post-It note. Miranda fits into her "skinny jeans". Charlotte decides she wants a small wedding. Samantha is reluctant to be known as Smith's girlfriend.

Debra finds out that Ray accidentally taped football over their wedding tape and isn't too happy.

Homer is prescribed medicinal marijuana after getting pecked in the eyes by a murder of crows. While his family and friends worry about the drug altering his personality, Homer becomes Mr. Burns's vice president after cracking up at Burns's antiquated jokes.

Lisa becomes a ballerina at an academy and discovers that her natural talent is enhanced by second hand cigarette smoke from the other dancers. Meanwhile, Homer reveals that he has secretly been making beef jerky and is dismayed when a family of raccoons steals it.

Marty, Doug and Clyde begin consulting work on the Emerald casino in Las Vegas, where they meet Tamara, a classmate of Marty's who recently joined Galweather Stearn. Jeannie has a confrontation with Julianne, and her bad mood continues when Tamara ruins the client consultation in Las Vegas by proposing an new implementation that is not yet legalized and not supporting Marty's original plans.

In the other room, he hears a classic rock song from his past (Smoke on the Water), and when we look in the living room, we see his three kids using their iPad / tablet / smartphone apps to play the song on virtual guitars and drums. The dad tries to join by playing the cowbell (actually a frying pan and wooden spoon), but the kids are not impressed and stop playing. The dad leaves the room, rejected.
