When a local art dealer is named a suspect in his wife's murder, the team re-investigates the 1968 death of a girl he was escorting to a debutante ball. The victim's mother sees her looking at the moon.

J.D. treats a deaf patient and learns that the Janitor knows sign language. They are shocked when the father, also deaf, refuses a surgical implant that would allow his son to hear. After saying goodbye to Nurse Roberts, the Sacred Heart staff institutes some of her lessons into their lives. Though Carla thinks they've all forgotten, Dr. Cox takes time to reflect on his purpose, Elliot opens her heart to Keith, and J.D. and Turk learn compassion.

Doug and Carrie have a discussion about what members of the opposite sex they each find attractive. When Carrie reveals that she finds Deacon attractive, Doug gets jealous. He shares this information with Deacon's wife Kelly, who is also a little miffed. Doug has already planned a paintball party to celebrate Deacon's birthday and the good fun turns into a jealous war among the couples.
