While Julius has the Gout, he discovers his passion for The Young and the Restless with his neighbor Sheila. Meanwhile, Chris lies to his parents when he earns an F in math. Chris also forges Rochelle's signature. Rochelle embarrasses Chris in front of his classmates when he lied about his report card.

When it debuted, the show originally focused on the personal and professional lives of two core families in Genoa City: the wealthy Brooks family and the poor Foster family. After a series of recasts and departures in the early 1980s, most of the original characters were written out and the show shifted to the Abbotts, the Newmans, and the Winters families. The Young and the Restless is one of the very few TV shows to successfully write out their original cast, and to replace them with new ones. One basic plot that has run throughout almost all of the show's history is the rivalry between Jill Abbott and Katherine Chancellor as well as the bitter rivalry between Victor Newman and Jack Abbott.

Bless the Beasts and Children is a 1971 film adaptation of the novel of the same name, by Glendon Swarthout, that was directed by Stanley Kramer, featuring Bill Mumy and Barry Robins.

Jack and Carolyn Butler are a middle class couple with three kids living in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Jack loses his engineering job at an automobile manufacturer. Though the auto industry is in a slump, they bet that Jack can get a job before Carolyn, but Jack loses as Carolyn gets hired by an ad agency and he has to stay at home with the kids.
