In 2010, four good friends have had a string of bad luck with their adult lives: Adam has been dumped by his girlfriend; Lou is a party guy who cannot find the party; Nick's wife controls his every move; and Adam's video game obsessed nephew Jacob will not leave his basement. After a crazy night of drinking in a ski resort hot tub, the men wake up, heads pounding, in the year 1986. The friends can see each other as their proper age, but when they look at their reflections and to everyone else they appear as they did in 1986 (aside from Jacob). The quartet of men are at first concerned they must not mess anything up but then decide this may be a chance to change their destinies and get the futures (and women) they wanted.

The episode follows the Griffin family after they win the state lottery, and go on to spend the money with no regard. Peter becomes power hungry, and demands that his friends, Quagmire and Joe, perform tasks for him when he invests in one of their projects. This ultimately causes the group to end their friendship, however, to the dismay of his wife, Lois, who tells her husband that the money has changed him for the worse. After continually wasting the money on various expenditures, the family discovers that they have gone broke, and reluctantly return to their lives as a middle class family. Peter also goes on to repair his broken friendships, after begging for their forgiveness.

In a unique twist, J.D. turns his narrating duties over to Ted, the Todd and Jordan-as this episode focuses on the lives of the supporting players at Sacred Heart Hospital. Ted juggles fantasies in which he has a full head of hair and a reality where he is helping the nursing staff fight for a raise; Todd meets his future son and helps Turk preserve his reputation and Jordan puts aside her knack for causing misery to help Elliot and Keith's relationship.
