Jimmy Livingston is a boy born without an immune system. Because of this, he is forced to live in a bubble dome in his bedroom, which has led students at a local high school to nickname him Bubble Boy. Because of his condition, Jimmy's extremely religious mother forbids him to leave the bubble dome, only allowing him Highlights magazine and the Land of the Lost television show as recreation. When Jimmy discovers that a new girl, Chloe, has moved in next door, he is immediately taken with her. They immediately become fast friends, much to Mrs. Livingston's jealousy. They develope a close relationship with each other and Chloe tries to come into his bubble. Jimmy is too afraid and won't let her. One day, Chloe announces that she is leaving for Niagara Falls to marry the boorish rock-star Mark. Jimmy becomes upset and demands that she leave. Furious and sad at the same time, Chloe leaves him a present and disappears. Jimmy opens the present to find it is a snow globe that says "I Love You". Overcome with guilt for having driven Chloe away, Jimmy builds a mobile bubble suit and sneaks off into the night, determined to stop the wedding. Throughout his journey to Niagara Falls, Jimmy meets many zany and odd people, including the Bright and Shiny cult, The Dr. Phreak traveling sideshow circus, Slim the biker and his gang of motorcyclists, and Pushpop the Indian ice cream man. In the end, Jimmy stops the wedding and takes off his bubble suit so he can finally touch the girl he loves. Jimmy's mother confesses that Jimmy has had an immune system since he was four years old, but she hid this fact from him in order to keep him all to herself. Jimmy forgives her, then grabs Chloe and kisses her. Jimmy and Chloe get married with all of their new friends in attendance. Then, Pippy and Pappy drive the two of them to their honeymoon.

Ernest P. Worrell, is working as a maintenance man at a summer camp and hoping to become a counselor. Ernest gets his chance when he is assigned a small group of juvenile delinquents. At first, the boys torment Ernest, playing practical jokes and mocking his efforts to get them interested in the outdoors. Their efforts are also met by resistance from other, more affluent campers. Meanwhile, an evil mining corporation run by the ruthless Sherman Krader has its sights on the summer camp, a site rich with the fictional mineral petrocite. However, Chief St. Cloud, the camp owner, refuses to sell. Krader manipulates the naive Ernest, one of the few people who speaks the chief's language, into convincing St. Cloud to sign away the land, believing it to be a conservation petition. Ernest decides to fix the situation by storming into the construction site and picking a fight with the foreman. Ernest is savagely beaten; however, he begins to gain the respect of his campers after the camp's doctor points out that Ernest is the only person who has defended them. Recruiting the campers, Ernest plans a full-scale assault as the construction company begins to demolish the camp.

A socially awkward, overweight, and naive "ugly duckling" obsessed with the music of ABBA, Muriel Heslop is the target of ridicule by the more fashion-conscious girls she considers her friends. She also is a perpetual daydreamer who yearns for a glamorous wedding and marriage to a man who will help elevate her from her personal limitations and free her from a tedious life dominated by her demanding and often psychologically abusive father Bill, a corrupt politician who verbally lashes out at his subservient wife Betty and their unambitious children at every opportunity he gets. After Bill discovers Muriel has stolen A$5,000 from a blank cheque to finance a vacation at a tropical resort, she leaves her family in the coastal town of Porpoise Spit to set up house in Sydney with her carefree, hedonistic, sexually-driven friend Rhonda. In Sydney, she follows her dream, only to discover life's realities.

While performing on Lake Springfield, the rock band Green Day is killed when pollution in the lake erodes their barge. At a memorial service, Grampa has a prophetic vision in which he predicts the impending doom of the town, but only Marge takes it seriously. Lisa and an Irish boy named Colin, with whom she has fallen in love, hold a meeting where they convince the town to clean up the lake. Meanwhile, Homer adopts a pig from Krusty Burger. Homer stores the pig's feces in an overflowing silo which Marge tells him to dispose of safely. However, Homer gets distracted and instead dumps the silo in the lake, re-polluting it. Moments later, a squirrel jumps into the lake and becomes severely mutated. Nearby, Flanders and Bart discover the squirrel during a hike, and the EPA captures it. Russ Cargill, head of the EPA, presents five options to President Schwarzenegger to keep Springfield's pollution contained; he randomly picks the action of enclosing Springfield in a large glass dome. When the police discover Homer's silo in the lake, an angry mob of townspeople approach the Simpsons' home and set the house on fire, but the family escapes through a sinkhole and flees to Alaska. The trapped citizens damage the dome over time and Cargill, not wanting news of what he has done to become widespread, plans to destroy Springfield. In Alaska, the Simpsons see an advertisement for a new Grand Canyon to be located on the site where Springfield is located. Marge and the kids decide to go and save the town, but Homer refuses to help the people who tried to kill them. The family abandons Homer and leaves but are captured by the EPA and placed back in the dome. After a visit from a mysterious Inuit shaman, Homer has an epiphany and believes he must save the town in order to save himself.

Michael Harding returns home from military school to find his mother Susan, happily in love with a man known as David Harris. He seems like the perfect father, and husband to everyone but Michael, who suspects that he isn't quite the man he seems to be. Along with his girlfriend Kelly, his biological father Jay and Susan’s friends, they slowly start to piece together the mystery of the man who is set to become his stepfather, but they may be too late in getting to the truth.

When Earl met a tough biker chick at a Halloween party, it looked like a match made in heaven - but when the costumes came off, the mismatch became apparent and Earl took drastic measures to get out of the relationship. Years later, how does he tell her he's still alive?

Narrated from Carla's viewpoint: J.D. lets the little things bother him with Julie, but just as he gets over them, the big things make themselves plain. Meanwhile, Carla gets a fertility test when a new nurse makes her feel even older. The episode features a cameo appearance by Billy Dee Williams.

In the first episode, we meet Mary Shannon, a US Marshal for the Witness Protection Program. In this episode, Mary and Marshall are on their way to drop off a new Ukrainian witness when Stan calls them about the murder of one of Mary's previous witness's son. She tries to figure out what went wrong when a mobster's son who was under her protection is killed while Stan tries to figure out what to get her for her birthday. Mary's sister Brandi arrives in town. Mary's boyfriend, Raph, tries to scare her by leaving Brandi in the truck with two of his friends catcalling him, but Brandi turns out to be able to hotwire the truck and leave him stranded at the youth center.

Ms. Edna Krabappel begins to lose faith in her relationship with Principal Skinner and becomes depressed. Bart wants to cheer her up and decides to nominate her for the Teacher of the Year Award. Ms. Krabappel and the Simpsons are given a free trip to Epcot Center in Orlando, Florida. Skinner decides that he needs to do something to win Edna back, so he follows them there. He tries to sabotage Edna's chances of winning the award, in hopes that she will become so depressed that she will come back to him. However, he has a change of heart and proposes to her.

A musical episode: Fez stars in the school musical pageant, but worries his friends will not attend to watch. His daydreams and fantasies throughout the episode include music from The Turtles, the Steve Miller Band, Nazareth, the Ramones, and Peaches & Herb.

Homer and Marge recall the story of their first kiss at summer camp when they were children, where Homer betrayed Marge by standing her up on their second date.

Homer's rush to the hospital to reattach his thumb, Lisa's rush to school to win the science fair, and Bart's run-in with an illegal fireworks scheme are interconnected in a parody of "Go" and "Run, Lola, Run".

This commercial starts with a man doing some grocery shopping. He sees a beautiful woman trying to reach something on the top shelf, but she just can't get it. He walks over, and when she turns around, he sees that it's Jennifer Aniston. She smiles and reaches for them in his hands, but he pulls back and leaves to go buy them himself. "Puppy Love" This commercial begins with the Travelers Insurance dog coming out of his house. Across the street he sees a girl dog that catches his eye. We then begin a montage of scenes of the two of them spending time together. They run through a park both holding the same stick in their mouth. They steal a string of sausages from the local butcher shop and run away with them. Next we see them watching a remote controlled sailboat at a pond in the park, and later leave their paw prints in the wet cement of a new sidewalk. After being in a relationship for a while we see the male dog come home one day with a bone when he stops in his tracks and drops the bone on the floor. The room is full of puppies (which strangely look like neither of the two dogs). The final scene shows a dog house with an addition added to the side to hold all the new family members - which of course requires additional insurance.
