It premiered at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 1 May 1786. The opera's libretto is based on a stage comedy by Beaumarchais, La folle journee, ou le Mariage de Figaro (first performed in 1784). Two men take samples of the new Pringles in a grocery store. The first man tastes a Sour Cream & Onion chip and as he crunches the snack, the display of onions bursts, sending onions flying. He takes another bite and the containers of sour cream explode, covering a grocery store shopper in a sour cream mess. The second man tastes a BBQ chip and the aisle containing BBQ sauce shows exploding bottles of the sauce. The men keep eating the chips as the aisles explode with flavors - the peppers explode, the cheese in the deli case explodes.
