On July 15th I nearly died from bacterial meningitis. I remember waking up from surgery and seeing that my legs were gone. Everyone told me I wouldn't be able to snowboard again, but it just takes a little bit of creativity and a lot of drive, and you can go places other people say you can't. When you're faced with your morality, you realize this is your one chance at live and you're not going to have a second chance so you realize you need to do it now. Everybody has tragedy at some point in their life. It's not whether you have it or you don't have it, it's where you go with it. I realized that if you put your mind to it that you can achieve anything. I never thought that I would be able to compete at such as huge, global level, and now I am.
My name is Amy Purdy and I'm a Team Toyota athlete.
