I actually didn't get into social media until this past year. Not, uh, Twitter, not, uh, Instagram, not Facebook. Never had any of that. I never cared. My friends used to always say I was old school. Social media kinda had to be a big role in my life because I'm in the spotlight.
The way I see it, my responsibility at this moment in history is to stand up for everybody out there who wants nothing more than to be themselves openly.
I see negativity daily. I've gotten nasty tweets, instagram messages, people have sent me YouTube videos and saying how they hate me, how they wish that, you know, I was dead. And one nasty email. She pretty much told me that we don't belong, we're evil. She's really the only hate message I ever replied to. And what I said was, I am sorry that you feel that way. But even though you hate me so much, I still love you and I wish you had a great day. She never replied back. But all the negativity that comes to me, I channel that into positivity. Like, I have to prove the haters wrong. And if I can use social media to make somebody understand it and accept people, I would do so. I'm not doing it for me, I'm doing it for them. And to help be that person to stand against bullying and to stand against hate. The web can absolutely spread happiness and love. And people have to be willing to just not send hateful things and be able to look deep down in their souls and say, I'm tired of being hateful. Just say something positive. If you start off once a day, I think that would just change who you are.
