"Matthew Broderick's Day Off" This commercial for the Honda CR-V is a parody of the 1980's movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It features the actor Matthew Broderick, who played Bueller in the movie, trying to get out of work by pretending to be sick. It features more references to the movie than can easily be counted. Broderick begins the day by walking up in a hotel and calling his agent to say he is sick and can't come to work. As soon as he gets of the phone he jumps out of bed and starts getting ready for his new "day off". He breaks the 4th wall throughout the ad by talking to the camera/audience similar to how he does in the movie. He calls the front office to have his car (a Honda CR-V) brought around. The valet stands there with a monotonous voice repeating "Broderick" like the teacher does with "Bueller" in the movie. As Matthew walks by a pretty blonde who also driving a CR-V, he tells her she has excellent taste in automobiles. He then drives his car to the amusement park where he rides a rollercoaster with a little girl. After the roller coaster, he plays the ring toss and wins a giant stuffed panda bear. While driving back from the theme park, he gets a call on the built in hands-free phone, and continue pretending to be sick, including fake coughing. At a red light, he sees his agent waiting in the car next to him. The agent sees him and does a double take, but Broderick has already moved the stuffed bear into the passenger seat before he looks back. The next stop is the science museum where he chases/growls at kids in front of the dinosaur bones exhibit. He then stares into the eyes of a stuffed walrus in a scene similar to the one where a famous painting is studied and zoomed in on at the art museum in FBDO. After this, the kids chase him past the dinosaurs. Following the museum, he hangs out at the beach doing martial arts-style movies, and then another stop at the horse racetrack. He wins and gets a high five and a kiss from the people he is cheering next to. On his way to the next stop, he sees a festival / parade in Chinatown and stops to participate - and even sing in it (in Chinese). This scene mirrors a similar scene where he gets in a parade in the 80's film. His agent almost sees him again on TV, but is distracted while in a bar. At the end, he gets out at a restaurant and has the valet take his car. While talking to the camera, the valet speeds off so fast, he does a jump while going over a hill.

I'm not sure what it is. I guess I'll be okay. I'm calling the studio, Matthew. You're not shooting today. No, people are depending on me. Movies bring so much joy. Stop. You're done. Just get some rest. He bought it. How can I handle work on a day like today. One of the worst performances of my career and he never doubted it for a second. Hi, can I get my CR-V brought up, please? I've got a lot to do today. Broderick? Broderick? You have excellent taste in automobiles. Live is packed with things you have to do, but sometimes you gotta live a little. Calm yourself woman. Matthew, you poor thing. You sound awful. How could I resist? Look, I don't know what you tell you. He's sick. Actors get sick sometimes. Thanks. Have a good night. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once and a while, you could miss it. Get going in the all-new CR-V from Honda. You're still here? Don't you have anything better to do? Go on. Get going. Go. (Lyrics) Oh yeah. Oh yea.
