In an overhead view we see that there is lots of footroom for the men, and in fact they start doing a river dance (while sitting) because there is so much room. I like it. I do too. The commercial begins with a woman, in bed. She is awakened at 1:43 AM by the sound of pebbles hitting her window. She gets up, looking out of the window to find a man standing on the sidewalk, with his black VW Beetle convertible, motioning for her to come downstairs. The two set off on a journey to see the "midnight sun" in Alaska, enjoying a beautiful journey together through the town where most people are still asleep. "People are People" This commercial show several people driving in their VW Golf's while singing along to the 1980's hit, "People are People" by Depeche Mode. One of the drivers/singers includes DM band member Dave Gahan. Each person is singing the song in their own style including a pretty young woman singing it in a sweet folk style, a man in a cowboy hat singing it country/western style, two party-going women singing along to a dance mix, a car with a full family with children's music playing with the baby humming along, a group of goth/emo kids listening to a slightly industrial version, a couple at the beach with an easy listening version, and finally Dave Gahan with the original version playing. This commercial for the Beetle Convertible begins in a convenience store. Several people are shopping when the bell on the door rings, and a man walks in, wearing a black ski mask. The man walks through the store, picking out different snacks, while the other shoppers watching him carefully, even sinking to the floor to try and hide. The man in the mask gathers all of his snacks, and takes them to the register. The man behind the counter tells the ski masked man that he doesn't want any trouble. The man looks at the clerk and replies that he doesn't want any trouble either. The cashier just stares at the man, who is holding out a $20 bill waiting to pay. When the man exits the store, arms full of snacks, he gets into a waiting VW Beetle Convertible, with the top down. The other passengers in the Beetle are also wearing ski masks, because the weather is cold and snowy, but that isn't stopping them from having a top down ride. The driver tells the man who bought the chips and candy that he forgot to take his mask off before going into the store. The Dog Strikes Back This Big Game commercial begins with a dog laying on a couch, a bright red car drives by, and the dog slowly gets up from the couch to go chase it. He gets to the doggie door, but can't fit through it because he is too fat. He gets sad and depressed looking at his big belly in the mirror, but decides to do something about it... exercise! He takes a red tennis ball and drops it down the stairs and chases after it, and then carries it back up and does it again, and again. Next we see him walking on the treadmill, and pulling weights stacked on a rug with his teeth. He watches a ball aerobics video and does the exercises along with it, followed by more weight training. Later we see him in the kitchen where his owner is making dinner and dropping food on the floor. He is keeping to a strict diet too, because he doesn't even touch the cut up hot dogs, or any of the food the baby drops. He runs laps in the yard outside all year (it goes from winter to summer), and even does laps in the pool. After shaking off the water, he looks in the mirror and gives himself an approving bark because he has lost so much weight. Next time the red Volkswagen Beetle drives by, he's not laying on the couch, and he immediately runs out the doggy door (which he fits through just fine now), jumps through the "V" in a tree and races the car down the block. This is the end of the "commercial", but then the camera zooms back and we see that it is an HDTV in the Star Wars Cantina Bar (aka, "Mos Eisley Cantina" or "Chalmun's Cantina") and the alien patrons are watching the commercial too. Some of the bar customers are arguing which was better - this year's dog commercial for the Beetle, or last year's "Vader Kid" commercial for the Passat. The alien guy with the big, crooked nose says the dog is much funnier than the child playing Vader when all of a sudden, he grabs his neck and can't breath. It turns out Darth Vader himself is in the bar and is upset that the guy doesn't think his commercial was as funny, and he's using the Force to choke him. Vader finally lets him go, and the guy apologizes. Back, and better than ever. Oh, that was great! I miss that Vader kid. The dog's better. Are you kidding, the dog is funnier than the Vader kid. This commercial for the all-new Volkswagon Beetle begins with a line of cars waiting at a stop light. At the front of the line is a black VW Beetle, next to a man on a motorcycle. The man on the motorcycle stretches out his hand while the driver of the Beetle reaches out to fist bump the motorcycle man. The black Beetle is parked at a curb while two men carrying a couch down the sidewalk give the man in the Beetle high-fives. The Beetle is parked again while a police man on a horse goes by, also giving a high-five. An image of a crosswalk sign with the orange/red "Do Not Walk" sign appears. The Beetle is in a parking garage with a driver heading the opposite direction - they both stop for a quick fist bump. The Beetle is parked next to a woman who is loading the back of her car with groceries as her little girl stands at the Beetle window for a high-five, before pulling her hand away in the "you're too slow" part of "give me five". The man driving the Beetle gets a palm slap from a little black and white dog. The man in the Beetle is driving, smiling when a look of concern appears on his face as he sees a group of cyclists heading toward him - preparing for a lot of high-fives, hand slaps. "The 21st Century Beetle: Reincarnation" This commercial begins with an image of a woman moving. All of her belongings are piled high on top of an old fashioned VW Bug. Next is a car chase where an old Beetle is the police car. Someone without much driving experience tries to drive a VW, and then a newly married coupld gets into their own Volkswagon Bug and drives away with streamers and cans tied to the bumper. Somewhere in the mountainous North, someone flips on their windshield wipers and drives off in a snow-covered VW, while a farmer in the South uses a Beetle to help herd his cattle in a muddy field. In the next scene we see one of the cars towing a school bus down the highway. A message is shown saying how if you are good in one life, you are rewarded in the next. "Senior Rebels" This commercial shows some old Asian couples doing things you wouldn't associate with old people while a whistling song plays in the background. It begins with a man getting some expensive gold hightop shoes while wearing age-inappropriate clothing as well, he does a little dance in them, and tries a silver pair too. We also see them out skateboarding, playing basketball, trying to do freestyle tricks on their old-fashioned bikes, and going surfing. Two of the men go up on a building and spray paint graffiti on it. Later on, an old couple goes to a club/rave, shoots off fireworks from a building top, and runs down the street pushing their wives/girlfriends in shopping carts. When they finally sit down to rest, the old couple sees a young couple get in a nice, new, red VW Beetle.
