At Popisms.com, we show you how pop culture (TV, movies, books, ads) is connected to other pop culture. For example, what song is in that Olympics commercial or TV episode? What book is that character reading? What music is another song sampling? We answer these questions and many more.

Plot / Description

"Beats by Dre x Kevin Garnett: Hear What You Want - Director's Cut Commercial"

NOTE TO READERS: This is the director's cut of the Beats by Dre ad. There is adult language, and potentially racist statements included in this version of the ad.

This ad starts with Kevin Garnett of the NBA Brooklyn Nets sitting in his home with the TV on. A sports announcer mentions that he is too "over the hill" to be playing basketball any more. K.G. looks up, grabs his Beats by Dre Studio Wireless headphone and leaves. Later we see him on the bus heading to the arena. There are huge crowds outside yell and booing at him. Some of them even through eggs at the bus because they don't want him on their team. While everyone is shouting, Garnett puts on his earphones and everything becomes perfectly quiet, and then music starts playing. He gets off the bus inside the arena, and there are more people yelling at him, but he can't hear any of them anymore. He just walks on by and gets ready for the game, and when it's time to start, he is ready.

This makes them incredibly formidable.
I think there's zero threat. My problem is, KG's a little too over the hill. He's just gonna have one shot here because I'm just not sure all that will click right out of the box for one big last hurrah for this group with the two older players. I still think they're the fourth best team...
You too old to be playin'!
You big gorilla motherfucker!
Get back to Boston!
You suck! You stink!
Go home!

(Lyrics)
You can tell everybody
Yeah, you can tell everybody
Go ahead and tell everybody
I'm the man, I'm the man, I'm the man
Yes I am, yes I am, yes I am
I'm the man, I'm the man, I'm the man
I believe every lie that I ever told
Paid for every heart that I ever stole
I played my cards and I didn't fold
Well it ain't that hard when you got soul
This is my world
Somewhere I heard that life is a test
Been through the worst but I still did my best
God made my mold different than the rest
Then he broke that mold so I know I'm blessed
This is my world
Stand up now and face the sun
Won't hide my tail or turn and run
It's time to do what must be done
Be a king when kingdom comes
Well you can tell everybody
Yeah, you can tell everybody
Go ahead and tell everybody
I'm the man, I'm the man, I'm the man
