Dan Merrick is a man who involved in a horrible car accident, driving off a mountain road. The impact causes brain damage for Merrick, which results in complete amnesia. After undergoing surgery to repair his disfigured face, Merrick tries to reintegrate back into his normal life. However, flashbacks of events he can't remember keep popping into his mind and this leads him to a dark secret no one wants him to know

While Rush and Valens leave Philadelphia to find Rush's missing sister, Jeffries works to solve the 1993 murder of a teenage girl, hoping to fulfill the promise he made to the girl's parents to find the killer. The victim is seen by Jeffries, the original investigator, when he puts her case box away. Rush and Valens find Christina and bring her back to Philadelphia.

The detectives search for a young boy who has been kidnapped by his mother (Isabelle Huppert) in response to the boy's father, Paul (D. W. Moffett), having full custody. The mother is an anthropologist named Sophie Gerard who wants her son to travel the world with her through her anthropological exploits. This orchestrated kidnapping goes wrong, however, and the boy dies in an automobile accident when the kidnapper tries to evade police. This makes Sophie hysterical, and she winds up taking Detective Benson, Paul and ADA Marlowe hostage and shooting ME Warner. It is revealed that Paul was the one behind the kidnapping and the ultimate death of his son.

The team searches for Kelly McMurphy, a teenage figure skater who disappears after practice one day and discover that many people in her life had reason to worry. The team's investigation leads to the rink's operator, a convicted rapist who was the last to see the girl.
