Doug and Carrie run into Father McAndrew at the fish market. They exchange pleasantries and as they are parting ways, Fr. McAndrew tells them that he would love to see them in church sometime. Unsure of how to politely decline, Doug and Carrie agree to attend church on Sunday. During the service, Carrie decides that since she is in church, she should pray for something...a raise at work. Much to her surprise, the next day, her prayers are answered and she gets her raise. Since this prayer request was granted, Carrie turns to much more frivolous things - like a sale on shoes. Doug is disturbed by this and he tries to convince her that God would never grant her prayer requests. It doesn't take long for Doug to begin to ask for his own frivolous requests - such as the Jets winning their next football game.

Meanwhile, Arthur hosts an open house in order to sell the house. Unfortunately, he hasn’t mentioned a word of his efforts to Doug or Carrie, the homeowners.
