Carrie finds that she actually enjoys her new job, which is something Doug can't understand. Doug is having a hard time relating to Carrie now that she is happy going to work every day, when it used to be that comiserating on their common dislike of their jobs was one of their connections. Carrie is thrilled that her new bosses are asking for her opinions and she feels valued at work for the first time ever. Not wanting to make Doug feel alienated, she goes to great lengths to hide from him just how much she is committed to her new job. Doug decides to get even by finding ways he can move up within IPS in the hopes of finding more joy and excitement at work for himself.

While Doug is taking a driving test, he runs into Ray Barone (Ray Romano). Ray seems to have trouble with a few of the questions, and asks Doug for the answers. Doug is caught by the instructor, and loses his license. Ray makes it up to Doug by taking him to a New York Jets football game. Ray's brother Robert (Brad Garrett) goes with them. After the game, Ray lets Doug drive, and Robert finds out that Doug does not have a license. Robert, being a cop, tells Doug to pull over. With no license and suspended from his delivery job, Doug tries to help Carrie study by playing with Arthur. Finally, Doug passes his drivers test only to have met Ray's father (Frank)(Peter Boyle) who happens to crash into Doug's car outside the DMV.

The revamped version returned to the air in 1972, and is currently still airing in the United States. From September 4, 1972 to June 15, 2007, the show was hosted by Bob Barker. On October 15, 2007, Drew Carey debuted as the new host. In this new iteration, four contestants place one bid on an initial product; the player who bids closest to the product's actual retail price without going over then gets to play one of several mini-games (dubbed Pricing Games in most countries) for an additional and more substantial prize. One contestant, through various elimination formats, could find themselves winning a large showcase of prizes at the show's conclusion. Originally thirty minutes long, the show was expanded to its current hour-long format on November 3, 1975. At this time, a new feature, the Showcase Showdown, was introduced. The three pricing game contestants from each half of the show were asked to spin a large wheel displaying various amounts from five cents up to one dollar. The contestant in each Showdown who came closest to one dollar in not more than two spins, without going over, was brought back to compete in the Showcase at the end of the show.
