Ted meets Robin, and Marshall and Lily get engaged. Ted tells Robin he loves her on their first date and ruins his chances. Robin ends up not being the mother because Ted explains that this is how he met the kids' 'aunt' Robin.

After Stella and Ted make the spontaneous decision to get married in three days, the presence of their exes destroys what was to be the "happiest day of their lives." Robin quits her job, returns from Japan, and suggests she may have feelings for Ted, and Stella reunites with her ex-boyfriend and father of her daughter and leaves Ted at the altar. Barney ruins a chance to reunite with Robin.

When Barney overhears that Ted and Robin have a secret at the wedding reception, he begins to speculate about what it might be.

Robin receives bad news and decides to hide it from the gang. Marshall hangs Christmas decorations in his house in the suburbs with some help from his neighbor.

Barney and Robin find themselves in an uncomfortable situation when they hide a secret from their partners. Lily attends a concert with Marshall and Ted.

Robin wants Barney to ask her father for permission to marry her. Lily and Ted both want to plan the wedding. Baby Marvin's constipation causes stress for Lily and Marshall.

When Lily discovers Ted’s list of things he wants to do in New York before he moves for Chicago, she becomes frustrated that she is the only person who knows about his plans. Meanwhile, Robin and Barney realize they have very little time together before their relatives arrive for their wedding.
