10 years ago, Matt meets Elektra at a ballroom party. The two bond over their shared observational skills and thrill seeking before heading off into the night in a stolen car. They visit the boxing ring used by Matt's late father, where Matt discloses details about his father's death before the two spar and begin having sex midway. Sometime later, they break into the home of Roscoe Sweeney, the man responsible for ordering the death of Matt's father. Sweeney is restrained, and Matt beats him unconscious. Elektra urges Matt to kill Sweeney, but Matt is unable to, which prompts Elektra to abandon him. In the present day, Elektra requests Matt's help on her dealings with her father's company Roxxon Energy Corporation, which Matt refuses, though he spies on a business meeting. That night, he and Karen go on their first date together. Matt visits Elektra's penthouse, where Yakuza members begin to converge on the building. Elektra, who has stolen Matt's costume, advises him to prepare to fight.

Scarfe attempts to blackmail Stokes, but is critically wounded instead and escapes to Pop's for help, where he gives Cage a ledger with incriminating evidence on Stokes. Cage contacts Claire, who treats Scarfe's injuries, while another of Stokes' men, Lieutenant Perez, is ordered to find and kill Scarfe. Knight finds out Perez is also on Stokes' payroll and tricks him into implicating himself, records his admission before arresting him. Cage, Claire and Scarfe are ambushed by mercenaries hired by Stokes on their way to 1 Police Plaza to turn over the evidence, and although Cage fends them off, Scarfe dies from his injuries. Meanwhile, Dillard has an interview with the media. The reporter exposes Dillard's possible involvement in Stokes' actions. Stokes is arrested with the evidence from Scarfe. Knight's supervisor expresses concerns about another disclosure of police corruption after Wilson Fisk's case.

Rand deduces that his father was going to Anzhou to shut down Gao's operatios, but were targeted by her on the plane. The former, Wing and Temple head to Anzhou, where they acquire information from a nearby beggar. They infiltrate the facility just as Gao arrives. Rand engages Zhou, who has high martial skills despite being a drunkard. The former overpowers the latter and continues beating him until Temple and Wing arrive and stop him. Gao arrives and her men engage the trio, who overpower them. Rand deduces that Gao poisoned the pilots. He spares her life and apprehends her. Meanwhile, the board offers each Ward and Joy 100 million dollars as severance. He attempts to accept it; but she refuses, later showing him photos of the board members that can be used to blackmail them. Ward decides to tell her the truth about Harold and takes her to the penthouse; but hallucinations of blood change his mind.
