In an homage to Law & Order, the study group investigate a crime when someone sabotages their science experiment. When they discover the perp, Annie plans on prosecuting them to the fullest extent of Greendale's Code of Conduct.

Dave and Alex have started dating again; Brad tricks Jane into thinking he's at home during the day, when in reality he’s got a new job; and Penny has a nasty fall that lands her in a full-body cast, which works out nicely for Max, as Penny's physical therapist, Kent, is very receptive to Max's flirtations.

Señor Chang reveals to Jeff that he does not have a teaching degree and asks him where he got his. The conversation is inadvertently recorded by Annie, who records all classes for taking notes. When Dean Pelton finds out, Chang is replaced by another, much stricter professor who has the class take a much harder Spanish final. Meanwhile, Troy discovers he has a natural talent for fixing plumbing, and must ward off a persistent maintenance worker (Jerry Minor), who wants him to use his talent to become a plumber. As everyone faces the fact that they will have to retake Spanish, Jeff realizes that Annie was the one who turned in Chang, remembering that she records every class, and Chang's confession. As everyone shuns her, she tries to redeem herself by making things better with Chang, who finds that his life is better for it, and she helps everyone study for, and pass the final.

The Smiths must escape Roger after their birthday comedy roast causes him to attempt to murder them.

Piper returns to Litchfield along with an Asian inmate named Soso, whom she comforts until Soso becomes too annoying. Taystee's mother figure Vee returns to disapproval from Taystee, and it is revealed that Vee and Red know each other from Vee's previous incarceration. Larry meets with a journalist who wants to use Piper as a source for a story about fraud and embezzling by the administration at Litchfield. Daya becomes frustrated with Bennett when he doesn't know how to smuggle in prenatal vitamins, but he later realizes that his prosthetic leg would work well. In flashbacks, it is shown that Suzanne was always marked as different, and was pushed by her mother to show that she is just as worthy and talented as others. At her high-school graduation, she is urged to sing during the ceremony, where stage fright leads to an embarrassing outburst, similar to her non-performance at the Christmas pageant. It is discovered that Suzanne became distraught after the pageant and punched Piper into the snow. This makes the fight between Piper and Pennsatucky look like they were equally responsible. Vee uses Suzanne's outcast desperation to manipulate her, and begins her bid to take back power in the prison.

It's the 'Santa Monica Cop' kickoff party at Rath's. Hank has an intimate notes session with the show's female lead, Amy Taylor Walsh, while the male lead, Hashtag Black, has his eyes on Julia. As Charlie tries to manage Goldie, his head-case client, Stu makes him an offer. The party ends early when Levon breaks Rath's cardinal rule.

Dave's father, "Big" Dave (Michael McKean), comes to town to introduce his new girlfriend, who shockingly happens to be Penny's mother, Dana (Megan Mullally). Penny couldn't be more thrilled that her thrice divorced mother has a new man in her life, but Dave on the other hand reacts childishly to the news. Meanwhile Alex, who is feeling lonely at the shop, decides to adopt an adorable parrot that turns out to be not so charming, spewing nonstop racist and homophobic rhetoric. And Alex enlists Brad and Max's help, as she is convinced the Chinese restaurant next door is a front for a brothel.

Darryl and the Belcher kids setup a business for kids to pay to see a good view of the nearby nude beach. Meanwhile, a new health inspector replaces Hugo and Bob disagrees with him.

Nancy and Silas ask Heylia to supply them with pot; as a reply, she shoots a gun at them. Dean is living with Heylia in exchange for legal advice, but Conrad has left her to live with his girlfriend. Heylia blames Nancy for her loneliness. “I had a full dinner table before you showed up.” Heylia incites Silas to confront his mother about Lars. After Silas reminds Heylia he helped Conrad improve the MILF strain, Heylia agrees to supply Nancy. However, Silas will live with Heylia and help grow the crops. After Doug’s company refuses to give Andy start-up money, Shane gives him $80,000 so Andy’s business can serve as a front for Nancy’s operation. While taking classes in applied criminology, Shane impresses an adjunct professor and NYPD investigator with his observational skills. Scott arranges for Nancy to visit Stevie before she returns to NYC.

Ryan and Wilfred both volunteer to work at a hospice to impress Jenna. While there Ryan learns that Wilfred has a "gift" where he can sense when the old people are about to die. The first time Ryan exploits Wilfred's gift to get on Lisa's (Rashida Jones) good side, but the second time Wilfred kills an old woman by suffocating her. Jenna tells Ryan that she will do a story based on Wilfred's "gift", but when Wilfred breaks into the drug closet and gets high, things spiral out of control. Wilfred allegedly kills Ruby, a nurse who works there. Ryan confronts Wilfred about this and tells him he never wanted any of this.[clarification needed] Jenna cancels Ryan's segment in favor of doing the story of a nurse who stole drugs and killed herself as a result of "guilt". When Lily and Marshall hear that Ted's college girlfriend, Karen, has moved to New York City, they explain to Barney and Robin how much they dislike her. The episode name was previously known as "Marshall Forgets his Pants" as to Marshall forgetting his pants when going to his work's gym before work.

While at space camp, Chris accidentally launches his family into space.

Krusty the Clown is in a rut when his show gets cancelled and his talent agency dumps him, so the Simpsons introduce him to seasoned agent Annie (voiced by Joan Rivers), who turns out to be Krusty's first agent from many years ago.
